Dear colleagues,
I just came back from a (short) trip to Japan. I have a set of ship photos, which I have no chance to identify by the visible ship name. They are in Japanese signs... ;-)
I'm sure there is a colleague from Japan who can help my by identifying the ships and support my by posting my photos with the correct name.

Hi Marc,
Just post them here, I am sure that there will be people willing to help. I've "identified" the one you linked in your post, btw.
If you have a name written in "proper" Japanese characters (kanji), and not the "letters" (hiragana or katakana, which are much easier to decypher!), you could try this site:

You can draw the character there as you see it (just make sure you tick the "ignore stroke order"), and then paste the result in google. This is how I deal with the identification of Japanese kanji names; this is how I got the "Kamikawa Maru". :)

That's cool - I'm feeling like beeing an agent during my youth (Marc... agent 006) :)
But I think, the decryption of the enigma was easier ;)
I'm working on - your links are very usefull and really helps, but I may need some exercise... as usual ;)
Well, I think the first picture means - from a logical point of view, "Japanese Coast Guard"... but the second one may should be her name...
it looks so easy 8) like Nirara****???

By the way, the second one reads "KOUUN".
It measns "port harbour" in Japanese.

"KOUUN" is a match! - I just posted the photo - but still no IMO or MMSI.
The next vessel I tried to identify, seems to be in the same dialect "Hiragana" (or how this is called?)
My analysis shows TE.N.YU.U - TENYUU ??
What do you think?

In this case, a photo of the entire vessel would also help. :)
Now, there's a question of the name (which is correct as you put it, TENYUU), but there's also the way this name is entered in AIS. And Japanese names are often entered in AIS without double letters (Osaka, for instance, although the correct way would be OOsaka).
So, here's the same situation: the name of this small pusher tug (right? ;) ) is "Tenyuu 2", but AIS shows "Tenyu 2".

Number 2 is "Shintokyo Maru" (新東京丸 - note that it's written right to left on your photo!), IMO No. 8351261, I will check the other ones soon.

No. 3 is indeed "Jubilee", IMO No. 9038256.
No. 4 is the "Ashinoko Maru", you got it right.

For the second one (XYZ) I tried the writing tool also, but couldn't get anything for the fourth character. But the others would seem to indicate that is is DAI---- MARU No.2.
But that hasn't led me anywhere.
The only candidates I can find currently on Japanese register:

I agree - I was trying to show that "DAI" was probably right, but indeed neither of these two.
Any other pics, particularly showing the stern?

No David - unfortnately no one of the stern, but only this one: A Part of the name - the number 801 and on the top you can see, that the a plat with the (former?) name has been removed...

Hi Marc, this is the "Daiyu Maru" ("大祐丸"). This name, however, is rather common, so I don't know which one of them.

Google translates 第二大祐丸 as DAISUKE MARU No.2, but that doesn't lead anywhere either, and DAIYU seems right, looking at photos of other ships of that name.
However, this may well be the one: this webpage records the allocation of radio station for ship 第二大祐丸 on 12 July 2018, MMSI 431401841

The name "りげる" actually translates as "Rigel", and there's even a pilot vessel with the IMO number 9130341 connected to this name, but I don't know if it's the same one.

Not that I am aware of, foggy (or I would have looked them up!) A few members have access to the expensive IHS/Seaweb database in which Off No is a searchable field. If there is something else, even in Japanese only, I would be glad to hear.
NKK Class site does not include ON in advanced search.

The annual "Register of Shipping" (Senpaku Meisaisho) contains the names and particulars of all merchant ships registered in Japan.

Otherwise, cross-referencing various blogs and pages against visible official numbers and names can take a lot of time; when the names are written in hiragana or katakana letters, that's not so difficult, but since the Japanese ship names are mostly written in kanji symbols, deciphering them can become a real task...
IHS database that I use has been a great help for me, but this Japanese register would be the best source, obviously.
