Title: Shipspottingtrips 2011
Post by: stevo on October 07, 2010, 06:33:32 PM
Hey all,

Working on 2 trips for 2011 (july - september)

- Flushing Approach.
Take a boat from Terneuzen to Flushing and then we drop anchor at Flushing. Then we can see all ships going to Flushing, Terneuzen, Ghent and Antwerp. As background we have te sea.

max 50 persons (25 euro/day)

- Rotterdam Europoort
We take boat and sail in Rotterdam Europoort

max 12 persons (36 euro / 3 hrs)

Let me know in this topic if you are interested.
If I can find enough persons, I continue my preparations.

Hi Steven,

Surely interested!
At least for the Flushing Roads trip in July, but for both trips I need to say that it depends on how soon I know the exact date, because of my personall circumstances I need an extra long time for planning such a trip.
But great initiative, and last trip to Anwerp a great succes to my opinion!

Hey Stan,

Hope I have date next week.

___

In july 2011 we sail again. We sail from Terneuzen to Flushing Approach, where we will drop anchors alongside the busy river.

All ships to and from ports such as Flushing, Terneuzen, Ghent and Antwerp will pass us by within a few meters and also the deep-sea and the river pilots changeover will be observed close-by. Hopefully, we will be able to enjoy a pleasant day with a lot of vessel activity.

People, not that keen on vesselspotting are also welcome for this excursion. Enjoying a glass in the sun, good conversation on board of casting a line, in an attempt to catch a wonderful evening meal.

We only had the tall ship weekend.

Hi Stevo,
These trips sounds very interesting to us. We saw pictures from the last one.
We would be very interested in both of them depending how you plan the dates.
Best not to close to each other because we have to come up from Bavaria. If they are not too close we could do two Shipspotting trips for some days out of it.
We would be two person, my husband and me!

Hey all,

next week I will know if my selected date is ok for the Flushing Roads trip.
We can go with 50 on the boat and I have already 12 persons who likes to join.

I also found a boat to go (trom trom trom trom) the WANDELAAR ANCHORAGE.

Who likes to do a harbourtrip in Rotterdam and what do you want to see?
1) the old Rotterdam with all the ships
2) Maasvlakte with only the biggies

Hello Stevo,
Thanks for preparing.... Very Kind that you put effort and Time into it.
We would be interested in both. Old Rotterdam and Maasflakte. But with only three hours this will be not possible , I think.
Are we restricted in  only  three hours???
We hope the date will be fitting in with us and look forward to the trips.

 a superb idea.
tall ship event was a very good day and trip.
If the date is o.k. for me I will join both.
I think for Rotterdam we need at least 1/2 a day!!!

Hello Galadriel,

In 3 hrs you see a lot of ships in the old harbour.
We can always make it a weekend Rotterdam. On saturdaymorning meeting at Maasvlakte, then we take a 3 hrs Maasvlakte sailtrip and on sunday we sail 3 hrs in the Old Rotterdam harbour.

For the Flushing Roads trip what will be available as from next week, you can book a nice hotel in Terneuzen and sail the saturday with us to Flushing Roads. On sunday you take nice pictures from ships who are sailing to Ghent, Terneuzen en Antwerp.

I have some English friends from other website who will stay for the weekend so you always have somebody to talk too. And I know a very good sparerib restaurant.

Hello Stevo

We would enjoy two Boat Trips on two days. That sounds great. We are lucky owners of a RV, so you don't need to book a hotel for us . ( Dave saw our rolling home alreaddy at our last "hunting for Emma"  event) But we would take part in dinners etc whatever you plan for thaweekend do. How do you know that sparerips are our favorite?

Lovely when there are other English people  joining that trip, my husband is from that lovely little island too :)
Have a nice evening

Hello, I really enjoyed the shipspotting trip 2009, and I would like to join again. There are just three things: I need to know the date, I need someone who can give me a ride in his or her car, and I need some idea for cheap accommodation. Otherwise, I know the railways can take me to Rotterdam or to Antwerp, that is possible !!  ;D

I,am also want to stay in a hotel in Terneuzen one day is for me a bit short for some shipspotting around the Schelde.
Off course iam interest in the Anchorage but depending witch vessels are in the Anchorage.
If we have a busy day at the Flushing Roads no need to go to the Anchorage.

Hey Stevo,
Hmmmm... I am Not surre about this steam boat Trip...
We just talket about this.
Concerns are:
Especially when Winds, you Might get very Dirty.... We have a very Bad steam Train expierience, came back black like coal miners!
Not good for clothes but as well not advisable for Kamera equipment. Can imagine on the sea, with wind it will even be worth.

Plus, 50 euro per Person is a lot of money...
I think, we would prefer something else, but we are only two!
When the other ones like this trip we will think about joining,

Kind regards from Bavaria

Wondering if you guys want to go into the old harbour or want to go to the Maasvlakte.

Hi Galdriel

While in Melbourne, take a ferry ride from Southbank to Williamstown, and back. You will pass a container ship terminal and possibly be close to arriving and departing ships, and tugs.  Williamstown has an interesting history, and is not a long walk to the edge of Port Philip from where you may get other shots

Best regards

There are more members who like to wait till end of may before they confirm there present.
Please note that I still have 25 open spots for the Flushing Road trip so this should be no problem.

For the Rotterdam Port trip I have already 1 boat full (for Maasvlakte trip) and I just changed the way of registration. Please note that the second boat will only sail when she's full booked.

But now everything is on hold as I have broken my left ankle in an accident at work.
Now I am unsure when I will be fit enough so to its only fair to inform you i wil not be able to attend this time sorry

No Raincoat needed...both trips cancelled.... such a pitty.
But understandable.
We are since three days up here in the Europort now, since we came back from England and the weather is quite...lets say "not amusing"....
Last night we thought we fly away in our RV...today its at least dry so far...this morning it was a bit sunny with some nice clouds for photograhing but now its totally grey in grey again!
We are standing on the Maasflakte car park at present and just received Stevos phonecall. I can understand it, the forecast for the next days is terrible.

We will wait for Elly Maersk now, the schedule for her arrivale here in Rotterdam just changed to tomorrow morning 7.00 O clock and hopefully its dry enough to make some nice photos of her.

After this we will turn homewards...
Have a nice day everybody and we hope the trips will take place one other day this year!

just a short update....

As the weather became absolutely horrible up at the Maasflakte in the afternoon we decided to pack up and go home.
Well see an E class Ship another time again... its not worth waiting another night and when youre maybe unlucky  and the weather is so bad when the ship arrives, that you cant even get out of the car with your cameras to make some nice shots...
A pity this trip, we had such a good weather in  Bavaria this spring...but the waether we had the last ten days in England and now in the Netherlands was absolutely crap!!!!
See you soon!

Hi Peter,
I think you have got a Navi, dont you?

Give in Rotterdam Markweg, go there to the end at the roundabout, there is a radar station where you can park and thats exactly opposite of the Maersk terminal at the Beercanal. I got this tip from Fred or Dave and I have been there last year waiting for Emma. You can walk up the side of the canal and make fantastic shots when the big boat is turning into the harbour.
Best place I find for photographing. At the Maasflakte it is  a bit boring for photos as the ships are only to get from the side!
Elly should arrive at about 7 in the morning. Go to the Maersk Website. Under schedule / vessels you find an update every six hours.

We are nearly in K

Regards,

Dave and all,

I'm very sorry but I wouldn't take the risk with this weather.
For the Rotterdamtrip we can choose any weekend but I'm waiting for a new date for the Flushingtrip (Owner is now on holiday, he's just married)

I want to book both trips in 1 weekend because we have visitors from Germany and England.

If all going well, we can do Rotterdam Port visit on sunday 11/09 (still waiting for final confirmation)

There is a group of UK spotters who visit Terneuzen/Antwerp/Rotterdam that weekend and they have a boattrip on saturday in Antwerp. Maybe we are allowed to join and so have a weekend with lots of ships.

I had a spotting trip with a difference yesterday. As part of my job, I had to visit the Red Sea port of Jizan.
Unfortunately photographs are not allowed but from where I was working, at a fort high above the town, I was able to see the bulker St. Mark IMO 8202733 and the general cargo vessel Lion IMO 8872801.
What a bulker would be loading at Jizan is anybody's guess!
