I'm wondering,if the vessel had a pilot on the bridge.I'm not familar with Southampton because i never was there,so my question might be stupid. As far as i remember the pilotstation is close to the Nab Tower.....
Thanks in advance for the answer.

I sailed on a paper vessel almost two years from UK and Germany to Newfoundland. We made the west bound trip in Ballast.Mostly we were advised from the UK weather service (Charteres option)to take the GC route via Pentlands to Newfoundland.Especially in the winter month November to March ,because we mostly had better weather in the north. One trip we made in December with an average from 15,5 knots with easterly winds the whole trip.In the south was westerly to SW'ly 8 to 10.......not good for a ship in ballast.....!

I was a so called "Jumper/Springer" myself in the Great Lakes a long time ago. In my opinion it is not safe! And i don't understand ,why they never changed it!I know, the pilots there are very good, but there is a risk!

It is not the "Flinter Aland". It is the MV"Amsterdam Bridge" on fire,i think she is on Mumbai road now in India.

Have a read

UPDATE 1.15pm: THE captain of the stricken Costa Concordia liner told a friend shortly after the disaster that he sailed too close to shore because a manager from the cruise company pressured him to do so.

http://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/more-news/costa-concordia-captain-claims-he-was-pressured-by-boss/story-fn7x8me2-1226253144825

So what?....The captain is anyway responsible for the accident, the people on board and the vessel. But I'm sure, the company knew about this and will be responsible too, even in Italy!

I think she capsized due to the "free surfaces" of water in the engine room. She lost her stability.
And the people on the ship can be very lucky, that this happened in this position on the rock and not at open sea!

12
Off course the captain has the fault of this desaster of the "Costa Concordia".He made several big mistakes. But after the vessel hit the rock "Le Scole" in the south of the little port he did a good job to bring the vessel back to the other rock north of the little port of Giglio, which is to small for a vessel of this size.If the vessel would capsize in open sea we would see a lot more dead people.
The question is,if he did this for purpose to ground the ship on the northerly rock close to the harbour entrance.
The vessel probably capsized due to free surfaces from the incoming water.
What i don't understand is the AIS track on Marine Traffic.According to this track the vessel never could hit a rock.
All people can be happy to come safe ashore, except the dead or the missing people, because the weather was good and the port very close.

It is an usual thing that a cargo of grain will be have a treatment with a special gas against bugs and other animals on a long trip over the ocean. But the gas should be only in the hatch and not in the accomodation.Somebody made a mistake!

LMAO Jesper!I was very often in Fredericia at the "Superfos" factory and also in other  parts of the port  and even in the shipyard with some ships.I know the area very well.......Maybe they can build some playgrounds for the kids in the sandbox there........brgds Klaus!

Already?????They are not sleeping anymore? How many vessels are attacked by this group?I still can't understand what is going on in these waters......
Send the motherships on the ground of the sea and the somalian pirates can't attack vessels 1000 nautical miles from the somalian coast!!!!!!
