Damn, I am now getting excited about this new giant. Moller simply never fails to amaze me with their relentless pursuit of engineering and ship design excellence. This lindo Yard has been the pioneer in a few ship design areas and continues to trailblaze. I remember the day the last " Emma Maersk" was launched, I think in 1993 when she was part of the first double hulled tanker series.
I cannot wait to see the pictures of this new "emma".

Here are some videos showing the same:

I got the video link from Bjarne Johansen (http://www.shipspotting.com/userinfo.php?uid=2931), whom I understand may also be travelling to Lind

Thanks, Bjarne, for an excellent photo, a view of the ship (without cargo) which will rarely be seen again.  From your photo, two things are clear:

1. She is a beautiful ship, with graceful lines, nicely proportioned.

2. She is  huge.

Bjarne, thanks for posting this great photo. However, why do we have to wait for Moller to officially announce further details before you post any more? You say that the tour boat came quite close so, presumably, you have some close ups?

We all know that Moller are very coy about their new ships, but I didn't think that prevented us, as shipspotters, from sharing what information and photos we have. Unless, of course, you work for Moller?

It would be great to see more pictures before she is named in 8 days time, as usual maersk are setting another milestone with this new vessel, hope to see more pictures very soon.   :-D

She is truly a beauty. What is surprising though is that Maersk have declared her capacity at 11000 TEU.
The earlier series was rated at 7000 TEU..
According to the press report, she will be phased into the AE1.

She is a real beauty just a shame i wont see her in Southhampton, the following is an artical in tomorrows lloyds list;

"MAERSK has smashed the world record with a new containership that is at least 10% larger than anything else afloat.

Newbuilding L-203 was formally named Emma Maersk at AP Moller-Maersk

According to AIS Live, she is now proceeding north though the Odense Fjord.

Good news: Danish television (TV2) was broadcasting live when the vessel passed the narrow Gapet sound in the Odense Fjord, and have posted a 5 minute clip on the following page:

Karl,

The Emma Maersk will be on the AE1 service, and therefore will call at Felixstowe. No doubt she will be an impressive sight.

It is interesting to note that all of AP Moller's major terminals have been equipped with cranes capable of handling 22+ rows accross for some years now. It was clearly always in Maersk's long term plan for ships of these size to be built. Southampton has not yet taken delivery of cranes capable of outreaching a vessel of this beam so I think it will be a few more years before we see ships of this size on the south coast

Hi, Unfortunately maersk lines AE1 service does not call in the uk, European port rotation is ; Gothenburg,Aarhus, Bremerhaven, Rotterdam Algeciras, so doesnt look like we will see her at Felixstowe.

Southampton Container terminals (SCT) does have 2 x super post panamax cranes on order with an outreach of 22 containers.

Superb tv clip of her meaving Odense, would have loved to be there, hope someone has some pictures?

Hi
Now I'm confused. Due to my last message, enquiring about weather this ship will call into Felixstowe, one reply says yes, two more say no. Are there any others who would like to take part in the voting in this thread. The no's are in favour at the moment.
At least I should be able to see her in Rotterdam in the distance from the entrance and the Hook.

According to Equasis, 'Emma Maersk' is 170,794 GRT. If accurate, this is far in excess of any figure previously quoted.
Very strange, though, that the next vessel in the series [IMO 9321495] is quoted as being of 'just' 99,000 GRT - another example of Maersk's disinformation ?

Another point - on a ship of this size, why is her name painted in such small characters? The name is almost illegible in just about every photo I've seen.
Yet 'MAERSK LINE' is emblazoned in huge letters amidships.

Hello Mats,

Thanks for all the nice info on "Emma Maersk"; all the data and particulars!!!
Very interesting. It would be very nice(but almost impossible...) for a lot of members(maybe yourself?)to be one time on board such a vessel.
They would be impressed by the dimensions; and we- pilots- are thankfull to "work" with these- marvelously fitted - ships.
In my carreer I always liked the scandinavian vessels!!!

thanks again

Yeah, she is a gorgeous ship. I replyed on a picture, saying i was tired of maersk. One guy agreed, one said i, and i quote:
To Ghazten

If beer is boring you, never visit a brewery!

Well, yes, perhaps. What i ment was that i think its sad that they are becoming a giant such as coca cola, macdonalds and the big ones. Perhaps the smaller ones suffer. I like maersk very much myself. I even plan to work for them, when i am through with my school. Now i dont know anymore.
Maersk to me was allways magic. Now i think the macig is getting to big.

Thanks, Geert(Zappa).

You are right - it is not easy to get out there to photograph or visit that many ships with an office job like mine. However, I was a sailor and VHF operator on a naval vessel (HNoMS "Horten") for a year (mandatory military service), and do get to visit ships where we help shipowners take delivery of ships from yards. An important part of our business is casualty handling for Norwegian marine insurers, and we have been handling on-site investigations and legal work on, inter alia, the "Tricolor" and "Rocknes" casualties. The problem with being a lawyer is, of course, that strict confidentiality requirements mean we cannot share the pictures or any information.

Thanks again for your kind words - and I shall continue to contribute the way I can, which is through digging up details on vessels etc.

Have a nice day - and keep posting those great pictures!

Best regards
Mats

It is reported in todays lloyds list that Emma Maersk has performed so well during sea trials that the ship will enter service a week earlier than originally expected.

She is now due to depart from Gothenburg early next month.

Current european port schedule is as follows:

Bremerhaven Arr 11 Sep 2006 06:00 Dep 11 Sep 2006 22:00
Rotterdam   Arr 13 Sep 2006 03:00 Dep 13 Sep 2006 15:00

Hmm... Someone mentioned that it would be great to get onboard one of these ships! well I work for maersk line and have been sailing on an A-class... And I have to say that even though the size is impressive, it's just like any other container ship (just a little bigger).

Hi Bluewombat, i work at a container terminal and try to get on a vessel when ever i have the chance, as you say they are all very simular but i still like to look around.
iam sure if you have any onboard pictures of the vessel you work on other memebers that may not work in the industry would find them of interest, that might also give them some idea of how the Emma Maersk looks inside.

I don't think i would become very popular if i started posting pictures of the ships, since some of the areas in the accomodation and engine room are company secrets(company procedures state that I can't, unfortunately)! Thats why you don't see a hole lot of pictures of the "Internal stuff" from the ship! However i do have some nice pictures of the Cinema if anyone should be interested! :-D...

BTW: They look boring and dull inside! Kind of beige! :-D
