The Station was commissioned in 1969, so in 2009 it clocked up 40 years of operation. The Biomass burning was meant to extend the stations operational life, by 10/5 years or so. Clearly a decision has been made to cease generation, no doubt the age of the plant was a factor that was considered. It may be replanted with one of those newer CCGT stations.

Help and Advice / Re: REQ: Southampton Docks
« on: February 07, 2013, 04:11:48 PM »
Saw her when I was on a TSS trip around Southampton (and Portsmouth) on Ocean Scene, last August (2012) I beleive that she is a waste disposal craft, because when we saw he she had an amount of recyclable material on board. OTOH she may be a port tender that is used for this.
I would be interested if your enquiries show up something else.

Hope this helps
Mike

Help and Advice / Re: Hotel in Terneuzen
« on: February 07, 2013, 03:55:07 PM »
For a number of years the WSS Solent Maritime Society and South Coast Branch have been staying at the Hampshire Hotel, in Terneuzen. http://www.hampshire-hotels.com/en/hampshire-hotel-churchill-terneuzen
This has been our base for all out trips around Rotterdam, Gent etc. We ususlly stay for 3 nights on a B&B basis, a walk into the town (10 minutes) widens the choice of restaurants to consider. The hotel itself does good food, and if you are up early enought in the morning you can photograph all the shipping in the Scheldt! I recommend that you bring a portable AIS with you though. The hoitel does have wifi whch is advrtised as free.

Regards
Mike
