Not sure about the ice in the straits, I haven't been talking to my father or father in law who are both working on her.

St. Barbe has too small of a harbor for the bond, thats why they are using Corner Brook.

Nice to hear that she got a other job, even if it is just for the replacing of the Apollo and only a short time. Would be very nice to see some pictures of her in these waters...

Yes, I know the "Bond". Have sailed on her back in summer 2007. Here are my pictures from that trip.

I just hope that she will have another job in NFL and not have to be moved to the middle-east like the Caribou.

The word is that the Bond will no longer service Lewisporte - Cartwright - Goose Bay due to the new highway in Labrador. Perhaps she'll start running from Corner Brook year round instead of just the winter.

its been said, that run will chop 4 hrs of the trip to Toronto,VS driving time to PaB and leaving from Cape Breton.

If it does and its developed,MA may go the way Of the dinosaurs in the future..

Not likly to happen though if ships will require icebreakers to get in and out of Corner Brook as in the past.
But then With a ship like the Vision,PaB harbour may as well be frozen.

Glad to hear your Dad is still at it Dean.

The Highway still needs some work ,,

MHO: no driver in his right mind with any consideration for decent equipment would put a truck on that road ..its a wash board a froth with pot holes..Last I saw on the NTV news earlier this month

This is getting now a little bit off topic: If you drive a 18-wheeler, I could understand your opinion... but I like to say this anyway: The Qu

When you say it would take 4 hours off the trip to Toronto, what are you comparing it to? Driving from St. John's for example and taking the ferry from Corner Brook to Labrador versus Marine Atlantic?

Comparatively it would still be quicker if you were running from New Brunswick, Nova Scotia or PEI to Newfoundland. My girlfriend's Dad trucks from St. John's to Nova Scotia almost twice a week (He's my source for the going-ons with MA lol) and I'm sure he wouldn't care to have to drive that extra distance if there was no ferry running to Nova Scotia.

Regardless, it's great seeing the Bond running again. When I used to vacation to Embree every summer I loved to see her in Lewisporte and heading out the bay.

The Master Plan is to complete the highway from Blanc Sablon to Sept Isles. This is what the Quebec Government is pitching to the Federal Government.

So a road trip from St. Johns, NL to Toronto, ON via Port aux Basque and the Cabot Strait is 24hrs longer driving time (not counting ferry ride) than the same trip via St. Barbe and the Strait of Belle Isle.
If this road ever gets completed, good luck to Marine Atlantic.

Don't see that having much effect on Marine Atlantic

Agreed Dean. Not everyone leaving Newfoundland will be headed as far as Toronto. And my own personal choice, if I was driving home to NS for vacation, I'd rather save the wear and tear on my car.
