Trip reports / Re: Stopped from taking photos in Antwerp
« on: October 12, 2020, 08:19:29 AM »
I have been in touch with the Port of Antwerp Authority who confirm that, as I was on a public road, there should have been no problem.
In fact they suggested that I take a copy of their e-mail to show to anyone preventing photography.
Really helpful people.

Trip reports / Stopped from taking photos in Antwerp
« on: September 24, 2020, 03:15:33 PM »
Following my visit to Terneuzen, I drove to the new docks on the east bank.
I stopped at the bottom of Deurganchdok to photo the containerships and almost immediately a van pulled and some official stopped me and said photography was banned and he insisted that I delete the photos I had taken. When I pointed out all the others were taken elsewhere, he was OK.
I didn

Just a very quick update. I drove up to the top of the Dyke as if to go to Kopje van Kanada.
It was all fenced off but the gate was open and I sat at the top for a couple of hours before a worker leaving the site asked me to leave so he could lock up.
I then drove to the Brasserie Westbier where I went for a coffee and was told it was free parking all day in their dedicated small car park.

Help and Advice / Re: Digital zoom vs optical zoom
« on: August 26, 2020, 08:15:09 AM »
I agree with Lappino
Avoid "digital Zoom" at all costs if you can!
You will just lose resolution and the increase in zoom is never justified.

OK  Change of mind!
As there are two possible entries, the barge and the tug, I am going to enter as a "Barge" as I am unsure of the pusher tug name.

Thanks

Thanks ChasB46
So this pusher tug is permanently associated with Chemgas 23 and I will enter it as "Inland Tanker" like the other 2 entries.
Thanks again

CHEMGAS 23 is shown on site as "Inland Tanker" but both entries (and mine) show it being pushed by an Inland Tug
Binnenvaart shows no propulsion.
I have a photo to upload but which category?

Thanks for that information; I am coming to Terneuzen for 2 days in September and I always used to go to "Kopje van Kanada"
The site east of town centre looks promising with the free parking and although we might miss the traffic entering the Ghent canal from the West, most of the coastal traffic seems to go up river. Also very slightly closer to the traffic on the North side of the Scheldt which appeared to be on the increase last year.

DOES ANYONE KNOW THE SITUATION ABOUT THE BRIDGE OVER THE LOCK AT THE EAST END OF THE ORE BERTHS?
IT SEEMS TO HAVE BEEN CLOSED FOR YEARS AND THERE DOES NOT APPEAR TO BE ANY WORK BEING CARRIED OUT.
I USED TO GO THROUGH THE TOWN TO JOIN THE MOTORWAY (EAST) AND IT SAVED QUITE A TREK BACK THROUGH MARDYCK.
GOOGLE STREET VIEW SHOWS IT OPEN BUT IS DATED 2013!

Site related news, functions and modules / Hyphens or no hyphens?
« on: June 17, 2020, 08:14:26 AM »
I am sure that this has been raised before but I cannot find it.
Do we include hyphens in ship's name or not?
For example, all the photso I can find of the "Synthese" fleet of inland tankers clearly show a hyphen between name and number.
However, our site does not and neither does "Binnenvaart"
However, again, the ship owners "Wijgula" DO show a hyphen on their ship list.
What is our policy on this?

What has happened to De Binnenvaart?
There is nothing in English but that's not a big problem and I can work out what is needed but it seems to have changed and less information is available.
Am I on the wrong site?
I have tried both .nl and .eu but it is not the same as it was!
Has anyone any experience of IVR? I know it's a subscription site but if the price is not too much, it may be a souce of reliable information.
