Trip reports / Stopped from taking photos in Antwerp
« on: September 24, 2020, 03:15:33 PM »
Following my visit to Terneuzen, I drove to the new docks on the east bank.
I stopped at the bottom of Deurganchdok to photo the containerships and almost immediately a van pulled and some official stopped me and said photography was banned and he insisted that I delete the photos I had taken. When I pointed out all the others were taken elsewhere, he was OK.
I didn

CHEMGAS 23 is shown on site as "Inland Tanker" but both entries (and mine) show it being pushed by an Inland Tug
Binnenvaart shows no propulsion.
I have a photo to upload but which category?

DOES ANYONE KNOW THE SITUATION ABOUT THE BRIDGE OVER THE LOCK AT THE EAST END OF THE ORE BERTHS?
IT SEEMS TO HAVE BEEN CLOSED FOR YEARS AND THERE DOES NOT APPEAR TO BE ANY WORK BEING CARRIED OUT.
I USED TO GO THROUGH THE TOWN TO JOIN THE MOTORWAY (EAST) AND IT SAVED QUITE A TREK BACK THROUGH MARDYCK.
GOOGLE STREET VIEW SHOWS IT OPEN BUT IS DATED 2013!

Site related news, functions and modules / Hyphens or no hyphens?
« on: June 17, 2020, 08:14:26 AM »
I am sure that this has been raised before but I cannot find it.
Do we include hyphens in ship's name or not?
For example, all the photso I can find of the "Synthese" fleet of inland tankers clearly show a hyphen between name and number.
However, our site does not and neither does "Binnenvaart"
However, again, the ship owners "Wijgula" DO show a hyphen on their ship list.
What is our policy on this?

What has happened to De Binnenvaart?
There is nothing in English but that's not a big problem and I can work out what is needed but it seems to have changed and less information is available.
Am I on the wrong site?
I have tried both .nl and .eu but it is not the same as it was!
Has anyone any experience of IVR? I know it's a subscription site but if the price is not too much, it may be a souce of reliable information.

Some good news in these troubled times.
I am advised that Crecy Publication will issue the 18th edition on 30th October 2020.
This is confirmed on their website.
Not sure how the current situation will affect that but at least a silver cloud

Help and Advice / IMO Numbers
« on: October 10, 2019, 11:29:55 AM »
I am sure this must have been asked before, but is there a NUMERICAL list of IMO numbers?
I have a photo where the name of the vessel is obscured as are the last 3 digits of the IMO number.
It would be so much easier to plough through a few hundred numbers than thousands.
Any ideas?

Does anyone know what is happening about the next edition of this great book?
I heard a rumour (not sure where) that Ian Allen were no konger going to publish it.
It would be a great shame to lose this valuable source of material

Help and Advice / Inland tankers with ENI & IMO numbers.
« on: August 05, 2019, 07:42:31 AM »
Is this possible?
For instance; inland tanker "Texas" is shown as IMO 9295309 AND 06004033.
However, when I search on my old Lloyds Register CD or on Equasis, the IMO number is invalid.
Please claify

Thanks

Help and Advice / EU or ENI
« on: August 03, 2019, 08:45:32 AM »
It does not seem to happen often but I was about to post "Francisca" when I noticed on Binnenvaart that when I searched under 06004256, the resulting vessel had a differnet EU number (02321408)
What is the differene and do we stick to ENI on the submission page?

Thanks

Help and Advice / Ship Spotting Locations west of Piraeus
« on: December 07, 2018, 04:18:36 PM »
I have spent a couple of days each year in and around the harbours west of Piraeus but am a little confused about the naming.
For instance Elefsina, Elevsis, Eleusis & Elefsis all appear to be the same place but is the shipyard in Elefsina as shown on Google,Michelin & Nakas Road maps or Eleusis as used on Shipspotting?
I know it is a matter of translation from the Greek alphabet but surely there must be standard.
In addition what do we put as the location of the old drill ships and heavy lift vessels in the bay? Is it where the ships are or from where the photo was taken?
Any help most appreciated so I can record the correct place when uploading.

All photos of this vessel (including mine) appear to show a stern ramp.
Why? Surely it just goes into the engine room. Why would a parcel tanker need one?
Has it been converted from something else?
Just curious

Trip reports / Ship spotting in Antwerp
« on: July 07, 2018, 11:13:30 AM »
I am a little surprised that this has not been raised before but there are MAJOR roadworks on Scheldelaan north of Lillo. In fact, when I was there 3 weeks ago, the road was shut completely northwest bound. I know there is little north of Lillo other than the Zandvliet/Brendrecht locks but if, like me, you leave Antwerp this way heading for Rotterdama you cannot. In addition coming south to the locks, do NOT miss the single lane exit right marked "Lillo". I did and had to backtrack about 5km in order to do a U-turn.
According to a local friend, there isstill 2 years to go!

Site related news, functions and modules / Bosporus/Dardanelles
« on: June 02, 2018, 10:39:04 AM »
I have just started to upload some photos taken recently in Turkey.
Most were taken on a trip up the Bosphorus and I have added them under Bosporus & Dardanelles Straits.
As these are 250km apart, would be better to separate them?
Just a thought as I am thinking of going to the Dardanelles next year!
