Help and Advice / Pennant Numbers
« on: April 16, 2023, 04:25:45 PM »
I noticed that the Pennant number search field is gone when doing an "Advanced search".
Also there is no longer an option to fill in a Pennant number when uploading pictures of military vessels.
I thought it was quite a useful option.....

Roy

When trying to upload pictures the last two days I get following warning:
Photo resolution should be between (1024px x 768px) and (4000px x 4000px)

I'm doing nothing different then when normally uploading pictures.
I always make sure that resolution is within the 4000 pixel limit.
Not sure where the 1024x768 is coming from now.
I can see other pictures recently uploaded by different members having more then 1024x768.

Please advise.

Roy

Help and Advice / Unsharp pictures
« on: July 10, 2020, 06:51:19 PM »
I have recently bought a new laptop (macbook) and the pictures I have since the purchase (end June) uploaded seem very unsharp when opened from the Thumbnail (Thumbnails as well look awful).
Only when opened "Full screen" the picture will regain its sharpness, proving the pictures are actually sharp.
This was never the case with all my former pictures uploaded, which were always sharp when opened from the Thumbnail.
Anybody has the same issue with a new Mac? Or any idea to make the normal picture (none full screen) look sharp again.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

Roy

Shipping News and information / Laust Maersk
« on: June 30, 2020, 04:28:57 PM »
Can anybody advise about the IMO-number of the first Laust Maersk of 1957/1958, Built Odense with yard number 141.
She had a collision with Alcoa Pioneer in 1961 and sank as a consequence.
Thanks in advance.

« on: July 13, 2019, 01:27:25 PM »
I noticed then since a couple of days it is not possible to view "Top Photos" for 30 days upward.
So only possible to view 24, 48 hours and 7 days.

Anybody knows what happened to the order for 3 containerships of around 11.000teu for Oceanbulk at Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding.
They should have been delivered back in 2017 originally.
Has the order been sold onwards with delayed delivery, or has the order been cancelled altogether?

Help and Advice / Problem posting pictures.
« on: July 11, 2017, 05:00:46 PM »
Hi,

Most of you will "know" me as commentary contributor.
I'm however a shipspotter as well. In the past I posted two pics and as I realize I got some interesting pics to share I tried to post some more today. However I have to crop my pictures heavily to get them to the 4000x4000 pixel limitation. So a lot of pictures I'm not able to post as part of the ship will be cropped away.
Now last year i bought myself a new camera (RX-10) which is very nice but nothing special to some high-end camera's I see among the top posters (Exif data). I can't imagine that all of you shoot your pics at a (much) lower resolution than the "best" setting of your specific camera's.
So please explain me what the trick is here to get your pictures down to the 4000x4000 pixel limitation.

Cheers,
Roy

Today the Cosco Shipping Taurus has been launched at Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding (CSSC) shipyard.
She is the first 20000 teu containership being built in China.

Now I wonder if she is one of the six vessels originally ordered by CSCL or one of the three vessels ordered by Cosco.
Any info would be appreciated.

If she is one of the six CSCL vessels then the story previously here on the forum is proven not to be true: http://forum.shipspotting.com/index.php/topic,15645.0.html

I counted 24 40ft bays in length what I can see from the pictures and in the press release she is also stated as 400m in length.

Shipping News and information / Maersk names for Hanjin's 13000 teu ships
« on: January 09, 2017, 08:03:33 PM »
Of the six Hanjin 13000 teu vessels (Dohle) going into Maersk charter I found so far the following names:

Maersk Emerald        ex Hanjin Africa            9502910,  already here on Shipspotting under her new name
Maersk Ensenada     ex Hanjin Harmony        9502958, coming into service January 17th in Bremerhaven
Maersk Esmeraldas  ex Hanjin Blue Ocean    9502972, coming into service February 25th in Singapore and crossing the Pacific
Maersk Elyn              unknown, coming into service January 20th in Tanjung Pelepas and coming to Rotterdam February 5th

Then two more so far not known to me.

The other three ships in these series are believed to go in MSC charter.

Will update.

Shipping News and information / Finished (almost) boxships from Hanjin Subic
« on: September 12, 2016, 09:05:49 PM »
Hi,
Anyone already any idea for whom the (almost) finished 11000teu box ships from Hanjin Subic will sail for.
I'm talking about the ones for Costamare and Oceanbulk with yard numbers: 0113-0116, 0152 for Costamare and 0117, 0141for Oceanbulk.
Both companies state on their website that charter is still under negotiation.

Shipping News and information / What next for Hanjin?
« on: August 30, 2016, 11:36:24 PM »
A lot (most) shipping info sites reported today that KDB (Korean Development Bank) stopped the financial support for Hanjin (the container shipping part).

This means a very tough time for Hanjin and potential court receivership i.e. bankruptcy.

Roy

It seems that HMM is still struggling to survive:    http://worldmaritimenews.com/archives/192237/no-deal-on-charter-rate-cuts-for-hmm/

Source: worldmaritimenews.

I guess, as also said by some members, there is to much pride involved in Asian companies. HMM and Hanjin should already have teamed up a long time ago.

Shipping News and information / IMO numbers for Rigs
« on: September 19, 2015, 07:40:31 PM »
Can anyone shed light on how IMO numbers are assigned to Rigs.
I noticed that, before, IMO numbers for rigs always stared with an 8, or even 87 as the first two digits irrespective when they were built; the 80ties, 90ties or this century.
Now the Maersk Integrator, latest maersk rig, has IMO number 9664627 while sister rigs stil have numbers starting with 87.
Did IMO abolish the system with an 8 for rigs or how does this work?
Cheers,
Roy
