I've seen this many times before on AIS transmissions and most of the time it would seem to be an error. Someone on board enters the wrong code into the AIS box..

Some corrections:

Ghawar - sold to demo cash buyers but resold for further trading. Renamed "Gringo" and likely to operate in fuel oil storage.

Ark Progress - not scrapped but operating in India. Special survey due 6/2020 so potentially a scrap candidate.

Crateus - En route Chittagong, but no scrap sale reported. Main class certificates issued 12/2019, so scrapping seems unlikely.

Eships Eagle - IMO 9353905 reported currently under demolition at Dominicana

That makes no sense at all. The vessel is a modern IMO2 chemical tanker, owned by a respected company and currently employed and anchored off Lome, Togo.

In fact HONGKONG BRIDGE IMO 9224336, although originally sold for scrap, the sale failed and the vessel continues to trade. The same goes for sistership ROTTERDAM BRIDGE IMO 9224324

SM Bangkok and SM Hochiminh demolition sales did not materialize and both sold for further trading. Renamed "Bangkok" and "Lila Hochiminh" respectively.

This thread is simply highlighting that the "ancient motor vessels" category, with its lack of definition and guidance, is being used as a dumping ground for photos of vessels which would otherwise not be accepted on this site. I'm not sure what the category was originally intended for, it's always been a curious outlier.
