Title: Bahamas Celebration (ex-Prinsesse Ragnhild) to the breakers?
Post by: Jens Boldt on January 08, 2015, 10:27:07 AM
Bahamas Celebration (IMO 7904891) which struck an unknown object while leaving Freetown on October 31, 2014, causing a hole in her port side will be replaced by Grand Celebration (IMO 8314134).

It was announced that Bahamas Celebration could not be repaired and Grand Celebration is expected to enter service for Celebration Cruise Line in February...

At the moment both ships are at Freetown, Bahamas...

Regards,
Jens

I am interested in what she actually hit to sustain such damage for her not to be repairable, does anyone have any further information regarding this incident?

It's a shame that she will most probably be scrapped but then again the company were very fortunate to have been able to find a suitable replacement and in my opinion a far better vessel to suit their requirements.

Sold to cash buyers 'as is' Bahamas for $128/LDT. Scrapping destination not yet confirmed. She would probably have been repairable but the minimal market value of such a vessel would have made it unviable.

$128/ldt? That is extremely low. I know that liners and ferries fetch less than steel-intensive ships like bulkers and tankers, but this is very low. I guess that means the she is not going to India, Bangladesh or Pakistan, but rather to Turkey or China.

Yes it is low, Ralph, though the price is more of an indication that she is sold 'as is' in damaged condition. She might still end up scrapped on the Indian sub-continent but her location could mean a much shorter trip to one of the lesser-known sites such as Dominican Republic or Ecuador.

The last ship my departed grandfather worked on (as Prinsesse Ragnhild, that is).
Feels strange, but she might have played out her part now.

Good ship, travelled with her lots of times Oslo- Kiel.
