The Southern Trader was to do a crew change in Auckland before she sailed on 13 January. Unfortunatley an incoming crew member tested positive for Covid-19 and all 12 of the crew were sent to a quarantine facility for 14 days. She is unoading her cargo again at Jellicoe Wharf, (not sure if it is the entire cargo), and she will go to anchor until at least the 24 January.
Also Southern Tiare is due to drydock, so her next voyage to Norfolk Island is cancelled. NPDL are trying to locate a replacement vessel to do the voyage.

Maersk are starting a new service to Fiji using Seaspan Hannover IMO 9320013.

Ports of call are:
Tauranga - Auckland - Nelson - Timaru - Lyttelton - Tauranga - Suva - Lautoka.

On occaison the schedule will also go after Auckland: Nels-Tim-Lytt-Nels-Tim-Lytt-Tau-Suva-Laut.

So this would assume there will be some coastal calls attached to this schedule.

Interesting times in shipping for New Zealand.

Maersk are starting a new service to Fiji using Seaspan Hannover IMO 9320013.

Ports of call are:
Tauranga - Auckland - Nelson - Timaru - Lyttelton - Tauranga - Suva - Lautoka.

That will coincide with the cessation of calls to Timaru by the "Rio" class vessels on the Southern Star Service. That then means they only need to call at Lyttelton once instead of going Lyttelton - Timaru - Lyttelton because of draft issues at Timaru.

Another unnamed vessel is also scheduled on that service.

NPDL shipping will also use these vessels for containers through Tauranga to Fiji.
Capitaine Dampier is phacing out of the service and Capitaine Tasman will carry breakbulk and containers from Tauranga and Auckland. She will no longer call at Noumea.

Capitaine Dampier will do one voyage to Noumea before Capitaine Magellan takes over at the end of April.

Maersk also seem to have a ring-in to Asia, the Express Argentina ETA Tauranga 3.3.21. They are struggling to load the containers they have committed to, wiped out the opposition and now "strangling" NZ exports with their service struggles. An extra-loader is the least they can do.

Southern Moana is to transfer from the Auspac service to replace Southern Trader on the Samoa/Tonga trade.

Southern Trader will replace Capitaine Magellan on the Tahiti trade, and also call Nukualofa on every voyage.

Capitaine Magellan is starting the new Noumea and Port Vila schedule.

In July, Southern Moana will be replaced by Capitaine Dampier after she returns from a lengthy survey in drydock.

When Island Chief returns from her drydock in China this month she will have been renamed "Imua".

There will be two new vessels on the Auspac service replacing Southern Moana and Kokopo Chief. The latter vessel is finally joining her sisters on the scrapyard beach at Alang.

Capitaine Magellan will stay on Tahiti until 22 June when she will be replaced by Southern Moana. At this time they will add Nukualofa to the schedule.

Noumea will be serviced by Sofrana vessels until at least end of June. There will be no direct Port Vila call yet. Maybe Capitaine Magellan will start her new Noumea/Port Vila schedule from July.

Zim Lines are entering into the New Zealand trades in their own right.

Firstly is the GSL Africa IMO 9473626. She is calling Laem Chabang, Ho Chi Min City, Nansha, Yantian, Hong Kong, Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Auckland, Tauranga, Laem Chabang. I don't know if the NZ calls will be a regular or just for repositioning empty containers. She is berthing at the general cargo wharves in Auckland.

The second service is called "New Zealand to Australia (N2A)". The first vessel is Trinidad Trader IMO 9675808. She will be joined by a yet to be named vessel. The rotation wil be Melbourne, Sydney, Auckland, Tauranga, Melbourne. She will be using the general cargo Freyburg Wharf for this service and bypassing the container terminal.

The bunker tanker Anatoma IMO 9557161 has arrived from Australia, and has been sailing in and out of Tauranga. She has now berthed in Auckland and is to be renamed "Korimako".

As if covid issues haven't had enough impact on carrier schedules, closure of the Napier port last week has left another headache with seven containerships now waiting to work the single container berth. About to complete her exchange, the Tianjin Bridge will be replaced by the NYK Futago, then Rio Blanco, with sister also Rio Bravo also riding the waves along with Neokastro ex Aglaia, Bomar Resilient and Kota Lembah. Loading apples is the Baltic Performer, Excelsior Bay discharges oil products, with log carriers Berge Jungfrau, IVS Merlion, and Mount Baker also to load. Several vessels sailed from the port earlier in the day - Andrea Enterprise (phosphate), Buffalo (cement) and Loch Melfort (logs), with seven more vessels due by the end of the working week. For the last 2 days various mixes of 12 vessels have been working or waiting off the port, which may be a record even comparing with the past "golden era" of the conventional cargoliner.
