Hi Rick,
Thanks for the info.
If I have some connections of names and imo-numbers I'll inform you of course.
But so far you had a lot more info than I had.
Cheers,
Roy

Hi Rick

According to Eastern Pacific website, MSC Ingy is the second Samsung vessel (2139).   No other names are given at present.

Thanks Roy & Allan.
The names are confirmed, so it will be a waiting game to put the remaining ships to hull numbers.
I am sure our man in South Korea, Vlad - aka Lappino - will help us with photos to confirm, as they roll off the production line, so to speak!
I'll try to keep up to date with the list.

Found in the Clarkson new-building list that MSC Eloane and MSC Mirjam are sisters to the MSC Diana.
So they will be from Samsung. So far don't have the IMO-numbers.

Roy

Here are some new names of DSME vessels:

MSC Reef - IMO 9754965 - I obviously have a problem here, for I've given the number to "Ditte"
DSME H4296 - IMO 9762326 - MSC then maybe this is Ditte?
DSME H4299 - IMO 9762388 - MSC Mirja
DSME H4300 - IMO 9755191 - MSC Erika
DSME H4301 - IMO 9762340 - MSC still unnamed

9762326  -  Equasis giving this as MSC Jade, so does this make 99754953 MSC Reef ??

Yes, Allan, it does so far as SeaWeb is concerned.  But as Vlad says, he will try to see the IMO painted up on the bridge wings (not that shipyards always get it right.
I cannot see name confirmaton yet for Daewoo 4300/4301

What hope is there?  ;D
Equasis is today showing two X 'MSC Jade'.
One with IMO 9762326 launched 03/05/2016 with Liberian registry &
the other with IMO 9762326 launched 05/04/2016 with Panamanian registry.

Hopefully the shipyard will settle on a binding decision soon.... ;)

Just data-lag, Rick

Equasis receives most of its info from IHS/SeaWeb, which in turn receives info from a variety of official sources - class, flag, shipyards, owners.

The Panama-flag one is IMO 9754953 and we now have that listed as MSC REEF.  Equasis likely now have that from IHS, and it will probably appear at their next weekly update.  Note that today it hasn't been updated on Equasis since 19/3/2016 (while IMO 9762326 was updated just three days ago)

MSC PILAR, MSC FEDERICA, MSC SARISKA, MSC LEANNE, MSC MANU, MSC CAROLE, MSC VERONIQUE....

Just to be on the safe side, we are talking about Jinhai, China, not Jinhae, South Korea, right?
Title: Re: Names & details of MSC 'Olympic' Class of 19,000 teu.

Sure.  The Jinhae yard closed down some years ago, I think - and would have struggled to build anything above about 50teu, if they weren't busy with trawlers.

Still, this needs some more clarification.

Allan RO, in his post before editing, has mentioned STX shipyard, if I'm not mistaken.

There are some other yards in Jinhae in South Korea, but the word "shipyard" is usually used in connection with only one of them, and that is STX.
They are quite capable of building hulls of 400 meters, and they have already delivered dozens of ULCVs, latest ones for MSC ("MSC New York" series).

Nowadays, STX is essentially bankrupt, but there's still lots of activity in their yards at Jinhae and Goseong locations.

(And there is a rumor about MSC planning to... never mind.) :)

So, you must've had some different Jinhae shipyard in mind.

Hi David many thanks for this, slightly off-topic but highly appreciated information.
Do you know where the exact location is of this yard. Last month we were in Zhoushan/Ningbo with reasonable visibility but no sight of any new-built MSC. My thought was that the yard is in the Zhoushan area.

Hi David,
Just went through your info and a question popped up;
According my info the first five would be the same size; as there are already MSC Palak and Elma one would expect the Avni being 9400teu.
Also in the last ten you mentioning two sizes 10800 and 12200, while I thought they (all 10) were going to be sisters of the same size.
Cheers,
Roy

Thanks your various replies.
"Jinhae" - forgive my ignorance - I just searched for yard beginning, and yards at, "Jinhae".  IHC list it as "STX Offshore & Shipbuilding Co Ltd - Changwon (Jinhae Shipyard), at Changwon", so it just didn't surface. I didn't see STX mentioned here at the time.

I think that gross tonnage often appear different on orderbooks.  It tends to be the round figure given at the time of the order being announced/revealed initially, but of course that changes to a precise figure as ship are completed and official certificated issued. MSC ELMA/PALAK are listed as 96816gt, and no doubt the following two can be expected to change to something similar, if not identical.  Does that sound plausible?  All four are same 300m length.

Of the following 11 there do seem to be two sizes: Yd 233/234/235/238 are listed as 314m; the other seven as 328m, which looks like one row less.

As I noted before, this is IHC data, other sources may differ, and changes may not have been noted there or elsewhere. And I'm not as close to the real business as many of you.

Address of yard given as "No.1 Jinhai Street, Changtu, Daishan, Zhoushan, Zhejiang, 316291": http://jhzgchina.com/en/map.aspx (http://jhzgchina.com/en/map.aspx),
which seems to be http://tinyurl.com/nwf59jk (http://tinyurl.com/nwf59jk)
