Title: Danish Royal Yacht - Dannebrog
Post by: david_s on September 27, 2012, 07:03:27 AM
Does anyone know whether the Dannebrog has an IMO number please?  A number of postings on the site show it with the number 6109295 but Equasis and other sites say that this is not a valid number. Equasis has no record of the Dannebrog. Vesseltracker has Dannebrog but with no IMO number and an MSI of 219517000

Many thanks

David

I will try to show you.
Wnen you use Miramar Ship index.
You wil see:  NO  -  LR/IMO  -  ID .
It is allways an ID number for ships-, but it must be a number in LR/IMO,
then it is an IMO number.
I hope it helps

@ David:
The DANNEBROG has definitely NOT a Imo-Number. Only a Maritime Mobile Service Identity (MMSI-Number) = 219517000. She was built in 1931 and is in service since 1932. As per my information "pleasure yachts" are not included into the IMO-Nummer-System, which came into force in 1987.

As I understand it, it is indeed strictly-speaking true that non-commercial vessels do not have "IMO" numbers, basically because the IMO regulations do not apply to them.  However, like fishing vessels, all sorts of non-propelled vessels, vessels of any type under 100gt, and inland vessels, which also fall outside the IMO's scope, a yacht can apply to IHS-Fairplay (previously LR-Fairplay) for a number.  In practice, all vessels which meet IHS-Fairplay's criteria for inclusion in their database (and the printed Lloyd's Register) have a number in the IMO series, more correctly the LR/IMO series.

However, the Equasis database does not cover such vessels.

As Dannebrog is part of the navy, she also have, when at sea, some of the jobs the ordinary navy vessels have, such as sea rescue and maritime surveillance.
