Title: Stena Amanda
Post by: Dean Porter on January 15, 2007, 06:23:43 AM
Just wondering if anyone had any information on this vessel. Is she owned by Stena or chartered.

Thanks
Dean

If you are talking about the "Amanda" which has been chartered by Stena line on the Harwich to Rotterdam service, she was previously chartered by Cobelfret from Flushing to I think Dartford in the Thames. She has been taken up by Stena to plug the gap after the HSS departed, and to supplement capacity on the route whilst the Stena Britannica and Hollandica are away for lengthening.
She first arrived in Harwich just before 0500 on Friday 12th Jan.
I hope this answers the question

The Amanda is the ex-Amandine (...-23/06/2003). She was owned by Cobelfret Ferries.
She is now owned by Amanda Shipping.

Hi Dean
No, the Stena Britannica & Stena Hollandica have not yet gone to be lengthened. The Brit goes to Bremerhaven on the 18th, the Hollandica in mid March upon the Brit's return. The Stena Trader is covering the Harwich run, the Transfer goes to Kilingholme and the Amanda has been chartered for the Harwich - Europoort run. The original plan was for the Stena Seatrader to come back from Ireland, but with events there, they thought any ship they sent to cover the Seatrader would be detained by the Irish, like the Transporter & Seatrader were.
On another note, the Partner and Transfer were both gone to dry dock together. Although the Transfer is back on the run, the Partner has been severly delayed.

P.S. Dean, you may remember me from previous Stena enquires.

Hi Karl,

Thanks very much, I do remember you. Where is the Partner gone on dry-dock? Did both go to the same dry-dock?
I didn't know two of the ships were detained in Ireland. Is there a new Stena ship coming out soon?

Thanks Karl
Dean

Hi Dean,

The Stena Traveller will join service in June 2007. She will sail on the route from Hook of Holland to Killingholme.

Hi Dean
As someone has already said, the Stena Traveller will be the next new ship.
The Partner & Transfer didn't go to the same dock, but I can't remember which two docks where used. I think Verlome may have been one.
The two detained ships, the Transporter was detained in Dublin in 2002 when the ship was filling in for the gap between the Forwarder going and the Adventurer arriving from Korea. I was on this one. The reason that where offically given was mainly due to the age of the ship, and the fire main was weekened. The surveyer put his hammer though it, (from what I understand, he didn't just tap it, he wracked it, the captain wasn't happy with this and went though the roof). The unoffical rumour that did the rounds was that the British had arrested an Irish ferry and this was a tit for tat. The Transporter's sister ship, the European Diplomat, was also detained in Rosslare, at the same time. We ended up with four days in Liverpool. With the Seatrader, we were told she was detained in Dublin by our MD on one of his roadshows. Again she was an old ship, older then the Transporter. She wasn't arrested but still had to have some work done before the Irish let her run, again in Liverpool. In both cases the ships had up to date certificates, recently issued by the IMO. Lets see if the Traveller gets stopped. She is rumoured to be going to the Irish sea to relieve the Adventurer, before coming to Harwich. There was a report on the web I read, I'll try to find it and send it on.

I will off line for about six weeks as my own ship, Britannica, is leaving for Bremerhaven on the 18th for stetching.

Regards
Karl

Just looked at the sailing schedule on the Harwich International Port (http://www.harwich.co.uk/ferry_times.asp) website and noticed that the entry for the 31/01 refers to the Amanda as the Stena Amanda does anyone know if this is a typing error or is she to be renamed seems alot of fuss if she is only covering whilst the RO-PAX are streched

On the Stena website it says Stena Amanda, maybe like you said a typing error.

I can confirm that when I piloted this vessel into Harwich this morning, she was called "Amanda". I don't think there are any plans to re-name her Stena Amanda.
