Yes, he was. He almost saved a english family. He knew the area well but they abandoned him and he saw them being crushed by the waves. He said to the norwegian newspaper Dagbladet onboard the vessel which he probably died on, that he never found peace until he was back onboard his boat. Was it a Selfa boat?

Yes that is truly a sad story. Have they found the guy yet? I read on a faroese newssite and they say that he is probably dead.
