Does anyone know when and what time the new Virgin cruise ship is scheduled to depart from Liverpool?

I have taken many many pictures from the Red Funnel car ferries and have had no problems whatsoever, in fact the crew normally announce what cruise ships are in port especially if you may pass them on the journey as also was the case when passing the capsized Hoegh Osaka.

I have taken pictures albeit from public places around Southampton, Dover, Aberdeen, Goole Kings Lynn, Teesdock, Shoreham and Hull and never had any problems at all.

If your map on Marine Traffic is not displaying any ships try clearing your cache and deleting cookies seems a few people are having issues today including myself and my mate plus someone that asked on marine traffic's facebook page

Hope this helps

Right a subject at last i can reply too hahaha

As a very regular viewer of ships in the Solent area i recommend Southampton's mayflower park as the large container ships pass right by here as do some of the cruise ships, (some berth south of town quay) also i would suggest town quay (free bus link from rail station) where the red funnel ferries go from is also good as well as capturing things that berth on the berths south of town quay, also a good place to capture shipping is hythe pier which can be got to using the hyth ferry close to from where the red jets depart at town quay.
Another thing my mate and i do is buy a return on the car ferries from southampton to east cowes (they accept foot passengers) it takes an hour in each direction and from these you can picture tankers on fawley and and you can also time it to be on one as anything arrives up southampton water.

Although not the busiest of ports the main road from Brighton passes alongside Shoreham by Sea where smaller coastal vessels and dredgers can be seen the 700 coastliner bus passes here upto every 10 minutes from Brighton towards Worthing.

Another place i have had quite succesful spotting sesssions is the port of Aberdeen (primarliy off shore supply vessels but the Northlink ferries to kirkwall and tankers can also be seen) the best place to view arrivals and departures is by the golf course at the entrance to the harbour on the south side although its quite a walk from the rail/bus staion about 30-40 minutes.

A tip from me is use google maps street views to assist finding the best places to ship watch.

For most of the above my 18-200mm lens is good enough but sometimes a bigger lens is required.

Hope this helps you and others and good luck!!

I agree with what the previous people have said about the marine traffic app but i also use the ship finder app (by pinkfroot) too when im by the sea as the marine traffic one now has a slight delay on it (it caused my mate once to miss a ship photo at harwich) and on the ship finder app if you zoom into a ship you can actually see it moving in almost real time..two apps are better than one...

Shipping News and information / King Seaways ferry incident...
« on: December 28, 2013, 11:35:13 PM »
Just been reported on bbc news that the DFDS Seaways ferry 'King Seaways has had a small fire aboard reported to have been started by a passenger onboard in one of the accomodation blocks.

The fire is now under control if not out already.

Its been confirmed that 6 crew and 1 passenger have been airlifted to hospital after suffering smoke inhalation.

The ferry left Newcastle just after 1700 heading for Ijmuiden..

Looking at shipfinder the ferry is currently off the yorkshire coast near Bridlington...but is now returning to Newcastle (South Shields).

I think its a case of updating to much i personally prefer the old one as i get a full screen of map when copared to the new one i only get half a screen of map and the other half of adverts, i now am using the ship finder maps for watching stuff around the solent, but i use marine traffic for logging where ships have arrived from which is difficult if the data only goes back 24 hours for a non subscriber!!

There hasnt been any update to the marine traffic app for ages....im wondering how the new site will effect the iphone app

Thanks for the replys Kyle and Damien.

Im only guessing here but i would of thought if she was bound for breakers surely it would be towed as a dead ship like the Pride of Dover was and there would no reason for her AIS to have been started up again, although im a complete novice at this and could be totally wrong.

Im hoping that she has been found work as i wasnt able to get a picture of her in her current livery and am planning to go to Gravesend for a spot of ship watching on Tuesday (so if she does move me being in the area would almost certainly guarantee that she wont move then)!!

i noticed yesterday 12/8/13 looking at Tilbury on marine traffic that the ais signal for Ostende Spirit is now showing again..a quick look through the internet shows that it may be another candidate for scrapping at Aliaga.

I was just wondering if anyonme knew if this was the case or not.

it appears that she is at the moment opersting between aberdeen and southampton as she was at fawley having arrived from aberdeen then returned back north about 24 hours later.

Asof 1242 on mon 6 may 2013 she is currently moored in the 'Empress' area of southampton docks.
