MSC Itea berth on L2 yesterday lunch time and is due to sail around 2300 tonight. In the meantime no large vessel can enter or exit the system, unless it can pass through the Hornby Passage, until the repairs are complete.

Brian,

You took the correct cause of action, as you were on a public path/roadway, he had no right to ask you these questions anyway and you should have told him so. Carry on taking your pictures and if he or someone else asks you the same question just ignore them and if they persist ask them what their going to do about it. Just don't be intimidated by these jobs worth's and as to erecting a screen, well I'll believe it when I see it; if they do though invest in a long monopod, a pair of stepladders or even a drone ;D

Remember as well, that they have no powers to ask you to delete a picture and that it is a criminal offence for them to do so; this applies to the police as well, only a court has those powers, at least in the UK.

As Bob Smith said at the outset, she is due to pick up the pilot at 05.00 hrs at the North East Spit (off Margate). That means that, providing she progresses up the estuary at normal speed, she should arrive off Tilbury locks around 09.00

Sorry I didn't make myself clear, I meant at what time is she likely to Pass through Tower Bridge which, I presume, will be on the 7th. As I have to travel down from Liverpool getting to Gravesend/Tilbury for around 0700 is a bit of a tall order.

Help and Advice / Re: Cameras and Photography Advice Forum

It would help more if you could let us know what lens set up you have.  However, at this stage don't become wrapped up with all the settings as you will just confuse yourself even more.
I currently use a D800/D200 with three main lenses. In normal conditions I use speed priority and a speed of a 400th or more to ensure that lens shake is eliminated, especially with the lager lenses (80/400mm and 70/200mm) at the same time ensuring that the ISO is high enough to ensure edge to edge sharpness. In practice this means and ISO of 400 on dull low light days and less in bright spring/ summer days; with the shorter focal lenses an ISO 100 and a lower speed is quite feasible in most conditions. As for focusing, I usually keep the release down until the focus point locks on to the best point for my requirements.
The only real way of finding out though, is to use the basic settings until you find something that suits you, and practice, practice and practice again, before moving on to the more advanced settings.

Peter,

She was de-commissioned last week, has been de-stored and the anchor's have been lifted; just waiting for the tug to take her to her final destination. The Black will follow her in due course.

None Type 42 names are going to be used for the foreseeable future.

I've had a quick look at this guys offerings, He appears to be a postcard dealer based at Cowes IOW, and I would estimate that at least 90% of the first ten pages are rip off's.

If you have taken your pictures in a public area such as a road or footpath then you can photograph anything or anyone you like and use them as you see fit.

However, photography is generally restricted at terminals, docks, cargo handling areas and other private areas etc., though, if no one is watching it would not stop me, for instance, from taking some pictures so long as it's not obvious as to what you are doing.

Should you be stopped though it would be unlawful for any person including the police, to order you to delete or for them forcefully to try and delete any images on your camera, only a court has that power.

Should you not want to go though all that hassle, then just delete them as ordered, put your card to one side and when you return to you PC/laptop download one of the many software packages that restore the images you have deleted.

I've never had any problem taking picture from a vessel though, I suspect it could be a bit of a grey area, as I would imagine the deck of a vessel is, in the eyes of the law, a private place and not a public one.

This is the case in the UK though I cannot comment on the situated on the other side of that 30 odd mile ditch which, thankfully, still divides us.

Scale Models / Re: Searching for two plans...
« on: April 24, 2015, 04:31:22 PM »
Depends on which type of plans your after and full set of builder plans for instance, if so for the Sunderland built vessel begin by contacting:
http://www.sunderlandmaritimeheritage.org.uk/index.html or search the web.

For the 2012 build try the owners/owner, CEO etc., and show them something you have already built and don't, under any circumstances, waste their time. However, the reality is that you have little or no chance of getting anything off them until you have proved yourself.

One of the joys of model building is the research aspect, I've given you some leads now pick them up and run with them.

Best of luck,

Jon Godsell.
