Help and Advice / Miramar
« on: April 09, 2023, 08:05:49 AM »
Yet again I have been asked to renew my subscription to Miramar (assume automated). No mention of the fact that I paid for the disk six months ago and have heard nothing at all from the family. I feel the next step is to put this in the hands of the NZ fraud dept and seek their opinion. Pity to have to resort to this in view of the circumstances.

Hi - I sent for the disk (and paid) last October. Nothing received, or any communication.

Wonder of somebody can help. I was sorry to hear about Rodger.
I paid $50 for a disk as suggested on here. That was over a month ago. Not received any disk or heard anything from the family.
Does anybody know if they are being sent out? My payment through on my credit card.
Thanks.

I worked in and around the Port of London for over 50 years. I have produced six books with my photographs (not just London but all over Europe) which are available from me (UK only) or from Amazon.

Many from my slides scanned over 18 months.

Shipping News and information / Doug Shaw

Sorry to report the passing of member Doug Shaw. I understand it was just after last Christmas. Due to him not having any family it has only just come to light. He hadn't posted anything recently, but their is a lasting legacy of photos on this sight. RIP.

Tower Wharf is upriver from Bevan's Wharf and Northfleet Terminal (formerly known as Bowaters) is downriver from Bevan's.

Northfleet terminal is not a disused wharf. The reason Astoria was shifted to Tower Wharf was to allow a ship to berth there! The tug has returned to Portugal as local sources inform me she was not powerful enough for the job. Astor did sail yesterday - giving ETA Aliaga 17th.

I have always lived opposite Tilbury (Gravesend) and I am going to stick my neck out and say she didn't call here as I have no record of seeing, or photographing her. I think it would be unlikely that I would have missed such an event. Hopefully, one of the other regular photographers from this area can confirm.

Unfortunately not good news. Lewisham hospital advise he has max 48 hrs.

Old news - this was announced end of last year.

Just because the ship completed cargo at 1330 does not mean she can sail "just like that". Tugs and pilot had to be pre-ordered. For the pilot at least 4 hours notice is required. As it happens the pilot was on board before scheduled time and the tugs were available, so the ship was able to leave the berth half an hour early.

Apparently the vessel sustained engine problems off Kollmar at 0135 hrs 30/7 and anchored for inspection.Nothing else heard so far.
