OK for the icebreaker, but why not try to obtain a nicer name, diefenbaker is not even a English name. Ask the Eskimos they certainly have a better choice...

Bonjour M.Fred,
They could name this ijbreaker: Groote Beer or La Grande Ourse.

By the way thank you for all those nice vid

Interesting to note that Mr Diefenbaker's name was an anglicization of his ancestral name, which was German, and was probably Diefenbach.

It happened with so many non english names, Walter Cronkite, the famous Am journalist, his ancestors for instance were from Dutch origine, their name Krankheyt or Crankheit changed into Cronkite.

Yes and even that paragon of transatlantic trade, Sir Samuel Cunard, altough born in Halifax, Nova Scotia was from a family that fled the US from the American Revolution, but was descended from German settlers, loyal to the British crown. His name was orginally Conrad!

As far as truly Canadian Names ..Ask the Inuit to name it in their Native tounge. For what Canadians AKA white people did to them and their culture ...thats fair
Call it the "CCGS Rockie and Bulwinkle" and paint it with pink polka dots as long as its built in Canada, have at'er

Sorry for bringing up an older topic, but I found a new (14th of March, 2013) presentation by STX Canada Marine with preliminary design details and CGI renderings of the new Canadian icebreaker. For some people, the second proposed propulsion arrangement may come as a bit of a surprise...

Interestingly:
Canada's second heavy icebreaker CCGS Terry Fox is presently scheduled for decommissioning in 2020.
I assume the replacement for the Terry Fox will be a bit smaller than the Diefenbreaker.
