Shipping News and information / Re: QE2 cruise ship

Well there was mention in one of the Scottish papers a few months ago that an attempt was being made "to bring her home" to the Clyde. Since then I've seen nothing and personally dont think the attempt will get anywhere, certainly its gone quiet in the media here. Nice to be wrong sometimes, but I aint holding my breath!

Visible in the basin of Dundee docks is one of the old Dundee tugs I believe the Abertay although I'm happy to be corrected.

Just wondering why she is kept(?) as it is many, many years since she was in use. Why keep an old small tug, why haven't they disposed of her, which can't be that hard.

Thanks for looking. Its my understanding the Dundee yard built coasters, small cargo ships and dredgers upto its demise. I'll keep looking

Thanks \Phil, however I wonder if those vessels you list may have come from Robb's Edinburgh (Leith) yard which shut 2 years after the Tay yard in 1983. Do you know which yard those ships came from?

Attached are 2 photos showing the remains of the Robb Caledon yard in Dundee taken today, 31 years after the yards last launch.

I know the last ship launched @ the Robb Caledon yard in Dundee went down the slipway in 1981, but despite an extensive search I can't find out her name, can anyone help?

Sitting in Dundee harbour is one of their former Tay tugs Harecraig (I believe)as seen in the attached link  http://maritimegallery.fotopic.net/p62685863.html

Its many years since she and her sister Scotscraig worked Dundee docks and the other sister (Scotscraig?) has long since disappeared - presumably scrapped.
Has anyone any idea why this old tug has lingered so long, it can't be that difficult to get rid of a small old tug and I can't see her coming back to life. I recall her bringing in the Dutch ship that brought the Discovery back home back in 1986 and I don't think that she lasted long after that in service. Anyone know of any plans for her future?

Its one of the RN's T class (Trafalgar) - as to which one as RN subs don't carry pennant numbers thats anyones guess.
Originally a class of 7, Trafalgar was retired in 2009 leaving Turbulent, Tireless, Torbay, Trenchant, Tirless & Triumph, so as your  photo is 2008 it could be of any of the original 7.

The old tug Sea Griffon has lain in Dundee docks for several years. Not a working Dundee tug in the past to my knowledge, so was wondering does anyone know anything about her history or the intetntions for the ship. Pic on link.

Its now 36 years since QE2 made her maiden voyage so she's becoming a bit of an old lady and she has comfortably lasted longer than QE or QM.
Does anyone know how long Cunard currently see her continuing in service?
