I have been on her from Dubai until Hong Kong. We also experienced propulsion problems with one of the azipod. Luckily we were in Singapore-Port when it happend. I know from the captain that it should being repaired on the cruise from Singapore towards Sydney. Looks like something went wrong there or more undetected problems came up. Sad for the people on board... But I know from experience, they will be treated well. But not every passenger looks at it the same.

I find those on the Lindblad Expaditions quite in detail.
Some bigger ones and some more information on the ship here:

I hope this is what you're looking for.

I would love to sail thru the Northwest passage or even the northeast passage. But the ship should have better ice class. Even this is common with large cruiseship in cold waters. "Costa Cruises in Svalbard" or "Celebrity Cruises in Antarctica". For Svalbard there are new restrictions comming in the next years so this mighty be also good for Antarctica and the far north. How would you evacuate all those people on board? Or is the Stand-by-vessel a big enough icebreaker, then I would sail for sure. If I had the money and the time... ;-)

I have been to northern greenland, Svalbard and Antarctica but all on smaller ships.

Help and Advice / Alaska's Inter-Island Ferry Routes
« on: March 23, 2014, 05:58:20 PM »
Alaska's Inter-Island Ferry Authority has two Ferries. The M/V Prince of Wales and M/V Stikine. They only offer one route with a daily service on their website. Does someone know if there is another route beside Ketchikan - Hollis? And where do I get a timetable? I'm looking for a route from Wrangell to Coffman Cove, if there is? On their website they show thoes town as "their" ports but no route. http://www.interislandferry.com/route.html

Any help is much appreciated

Shipping News and information / MV Isabella ex Viking Line
« on: April 24, 2013, 05:27:13 PM »
On April 5th Viking line sold M/V Isabella

Viking Line Abp reached on April 5th an agreement with Hansalink Limited, a subsidiary of Tallink Grupp, regarding a sale of M/V Isabella. The transaction and the delivery of the vessel are scheduled to be completed during April 2013.

The sale of M/V Isabella is a planned part of the financing of Viking Line's new cruise vessel M/V Viking Grace. The total sales price will be approximately 30 million euros and results in a capital gain of about 23 million euros.

Does anyone have an Idea where she will be sailing?
Does anyone have some shots of her with the new livery?

Shipping News and information / Re: Open bow doors

I know from recent ferry rides, that in some countrys it's still usual to drive the last few meters with open bow. Seen in canada with the MV Chi-Chemaun and also on the little fjord-crossing ferries in norway. Even in Chile in some ports we had the back ramp open and down for unloading on the MV Evangelistas. Maybe sometime it is the only way to get to the ramp.

Hi everyone,

I took this route as a tourist back in 2007 on the way up north to Labrador.
Pictures here: http://sniederer.k-i-s.ch/2007.06/pages/image197.html
I hope they bring back the route somehow, because it saved us quite some driving.

I'm sure it is a dificult route but maybe they cancombine the route from Digby to Saint John and the Yarmouth - Bar Harbour run with one High Speed Vessel. I could imagine, with a good timetable, it could be provitable. (Maybe include Boston - Yarmouth...)

We'll see... ;-)
