Maritime Research and History / Shipyard build numbers
« on: January 11, 2024, 06:37:50 AM »
I have been looking for the yard number of the STI MAYFAIR, is there a way that yard numbers can be found for ships built after 1999 when the Starke Schell Registers ended as I don't think Miramar is being updated anymore.

Help and Advice / Miramar Subscriptions
« on: September 07, 2022, 12:58:17 AM »
Can any body help with my Miramar subscription, as I live in New Zealand I have an option of paying by direct credit from my account to a NZ Bank account, this has worked in the past. I informed via email to [email protected] that I had done so. So far after several emails my subscription has run out and am unable to contact Miramar at their address to see what's happening. Does any body know if this is the correct email address or how I can contact them.
Thanks in advance,

Help and Advice / Mystery Nauru Island ship
« on: August 03, 2019, 07:50:08 AM »
Can anybody help to identify the following ship.

http://www.shipspotting.com/gallery/photo.php?lid=3037488

Believe this was taken at Brisbane and looks by the funnel colours to be one from Nauru Island although looking in a few resources can't find anything. She is not the TRYPHENA, EIGAMOIYA, EIGIGU, ENNA-G, ROSIE-D,KOLLE-D OR CENPAC ROUNDER.

Is there any way that you can search for a particular subject in the Forum area apart from going to each page.

Help and Advice / Identifying Russian ship
« on: July 04, 2019, 02:41:20 AM »
Posted today of a General Cargo ship, built in the 1960s I would think from an Eastern European shipyard maybe. She seems to have the Soviet funnel colours and I think the callsign is UUXW by flags flying above bridge. Can anybody identify the ship or class. photo is at:-

Photo locations for Marsden Point are best done from Whangarei Heads which is opposite Marsden Point.

For tanker berths and ships arriving/departing through the heads take Whangarei Heads Road out of Whangarei then turn off at Bay View Road.

The wharves are best seen by turning off Whangarei Heads Road into Reotahi Road then onto Beach Road, this looks directly across the water to the wharves.

Marsden Point is the main port for crude oil imports to the NZ Refinery Co. and also exports of refined products. The main exports are logs, wood chips and triboard and further up is the cement works of Portland Cement.

Help and Advice / Hong Kong photo location - East Lamma Channel
« on: June 03, 2018, 04:15:32 AM »
Just back from Hong Kong and stayed at the T Hotel (great hotel, its basically a teaching hotel so service is excellent with plenty of students and supervisors in attendance, highly rated by TripAdvisor) which overlooks the East Lamma Channel. Plenty of ships use the channel with the pilot station in a bay just above the photo of the AS CLEMENTINA, you have to photogragh between the tower blocks but this is not a problem. Once past the tower blocks you can photograph the main route into Hong Kong and the anchorage. Although I did all mine from the hotel balcony using a 300mm zoom however a smaller zoom is possible. If you want waterline shots the catch a bus down to Cyberport Road in Telegraph Bay from where you can photograph the whole channel, small zoom here as ships are quite close. There is shade under the trees which you will need as it was 34 deg. when we were there. Sun is a problem after midday. Examples of photos below.

Shipping News and information / Nan Hong 938 ship builder
« on: April 25, 2016, 05:24:24 AM »
Does anybody know where this ship was built or where I can do some research to find out. There seems to be a few ships like her that do not have IMO#s and I don't see to be able to find out builders details.

Any help much appreciated.

Help and Advice / Shipspotting on the Ilse of Wight
« on: March 29, 2015, 08:19:40 PM »
I know I've seen several articles on Cowes etc but does anybody know the best places on the Isle of Wight and what the time difference is between ships docking at say Southampton and Fawley. What sort of lens would I need and position of the sun. Be at Cowes early May.

Any information would be gladly accepted.
