Hi
Just to to toss in another variable. None of the above are used on naval vessels. What is interesting there is displacement.

Best regards

I see what you are talking about, but I do believe it is the same on all three. I think it might be the perspective that's making it appear that way, but I am not an expert on Otos
Maybe there are others that know them better here.

Hi
I've looked at the two, but I fail to see the difference. It seems like the same OTO shield to me, just from different angles and aspect.

You might have a keener eye than me, what is it that is different?

Could you please put in a link to the two different ones?

It'll be easier to see what you're asking about :-)

If you look closely at the different pictures you'll notice that all but two of the rafts have been released. In addidition there were several other vessels present to aid in the rescue.

Hi
Try this http://www.kystverket.no/?did=9908780

There are more info in Norwegian on the same site

Two questions come to mind regarding the moorings;

Were the moorings protected against chafing?

Were the moorings laid in such a fashion that the doubles had proper loadsharing. If two lines are laid a pair and they take unequal strain you might as well have a single line there.

Well, it would be miracle if he was still alive, but I don't see that as very likely.

He is still missing to my knowledge.

He was actually a survivor of the Tsunami, I think in Thailand......

During the hearings today it was established that the fishingvessel had the right of way.

I will attempt to translate the transcriptions fra the VHF log  of the Coastal radiostation receiving the calls (Flor

As a matter of coincidence HNoMS Tyr is actually a "controlled minelayer", but is equipped with ROV's and has over the later years been frequently used in search of missing persons in incidents like this. Likewise she has been used in the investigations of wrecks.

There is many factors playing into this and it's to early to say for sure.

Just remember that according to the rules of the road the fishingvessel has the right of way when fishing. To complicate  things further, many small fishingvessels actually don't man the wheelhouse all the time 'cause they have to help out working on deck preparing the catch on their way in.

And in the end you always have the fact that in many of these cases you have a small fishing boat of wood or fiberglass in relatively heavy seas. This makes it a har "target" to sea for  radars (especially newer ones with a lot of fancy clutter functions and videoprsessing) and the small fishingboats don't have AIS.

A further cause for this might be a watchstander problem on the tanker with problems ranging from not vigilant enough (or present) lookouts, fatigue, training, work ethics, work load on the mates or a combination of all of the above.

This is all to early to say anyhting about it, except for that it is a tragic accident for all involved.  :-(
