I found these pictures from 1988 of the damaged "Seawise Giant" after the tragic May 1988 air attach at Hormuz: https://www.alamy.com/stock-photo/bandar-abbas-anch.html

The completely burnt out vessel is the suezmax (converted from VLCC) "Argosy", which was docked next to it (having done a shuttle run fro Kharg Island): http://www.aukevisser.nl/supertankers/VLCC%20I-K/id1150.htm
It can be seen next to the Giant here, which was after the fire started surrounding the vessels: http://www.aukevisser.nl/supertankers/id112.htm

The sunk vessel is the "Barcelona", which was docked on the port side of the Giant, loading oil for export: http://www.aukevisser.nl/supertankers/VLCC%20B/id300.htm

Other vessels in the photo set are:
- "Khark 5" 285,000 dwt, docked next to:
- "White Rose", 392,000 dwt (storage tanker), and on her port side:
- "Eirini L", suezmax tanker

In the distance in one photo:
- "World Petrobras" 414,000 dwt (white "W" on funnel)
- "Indiana" 300,000 dwt (docked next to the Petrobras, with two funnels)

Others:
- "Dena" 372,000 dwt
- "Burmah Endeavour" 452,000 dwt (in the distance, part hidden behind aft of "Seawise Giant").
- "Scan Pride", tug
- "Smit Trinidad", support vessel

Vale is readying the "Ore Fabrica" transhipment terminal at Subic to receive "Vale Brasil" this weekend. "Ore Fabrica" is the former Frontline VLCC "Front Duchess".

Tradewinds has some news on her today: http://www.tradewindsnews.com/drycargo/663516/vale-plots-grand-opening

Antipodean Mariner has some very interesting pictures and details here:

The following is a hotlink to one of his pictures (which I hope he does not mind). Check out his always interesting blog for the rest.

"West Navigator" meeting wave measured at 30 meters during hurricane "Berit" off Norway 25 November 2011.

The big wave hits just after 3:20 in the video:

The video was shot from the fully enclosed bridgewing, port side. The woman at the end says "Wow, that gave me the chills".

(i) "Vale China", the first 400,000 dwt VLOC built in China, is now at sea:

There was also a picture in Newsclippings yesterday.

Several sisters are being churned out as well, including "Vale Dongjiakou":

(ii) "Berge Everest" of 388,000 dwt seems to be completed now as well:

(iii) STX has also delivered "Vale Beijing" of 400,000 dwt, which again has a slightly different design than the ones built at DSME and in China:

(iv) Several identical sisters to "Vale Brasil" are also being completed at DSME, including "Vale Rio de Janeiro" and "Vale Italia":

The first of many valemaxes has been delivered, named "Vale Brasil". Vale has a dedicated page for her with pictures and video: http://75.125.136.98/~appvale/english.html

There are already several images of her on Shipspotting.com as well, thanks to our very own Rogerio Cordeiro and Edson Lucas: http://www.shipspotting.com/gallery/photo_search.php?query=vale+brasil&x=27&y=4

Quite an interesting story. Let's hope they get to put her to work, and that she can do some good.

Picture of the burning tanker here: http://suomenkuvalehti.fi/kuvat/2009/08/19/malaysia-ship-collision

Some crew are missing. I hope they are all found alive.

The 1995-built handysize bulker "FULL CITY" (IMO 9073672) grounded at Bamble in southern Norway this morning. Most of the crew is evacuated and the vessel is leaking bunkers. The vessel is according to LR Fairplay owned by a Panama company controlled by COSCO HK Shipping.

The weather in the area was very rough when the grounding happened.

A big picture can be found here. More big pictures can be found on the Norwegian Coastal Authority's newspage.

Euronav and OSG are teaming up to supply floating storage and offloading (FSO) units to Maersk Oil in Qatar. The joint venture will provide two vessels for the Al Shaheen field, where "Knock Nevis" (564,000 dwt) is already operating as an FSO.

The eight-year contracts will require the conversion of the two largest tankers in the world, the 442,000

There is an article in Tradewinds today about it, and here are some excerpts:

China looks to bulker giants

The demand for bigger ships has put Chinese yards at their drawing boards.

Market sources say privately owned Jiangsu Rongsheng Heavy Industries is introducing a new state-of-the-art design for a very large ore carrier (VLOC) that will take this type of ship up to 400,000 dwt. Bulker players say the largest ore carrier in the water is of 360,000 dwt, while the biggest newbuildings on order are 388,000-dwt vessels booked by BW Shipping at China's Bohai Shipbuilding Heavy Industries Co.

An official from Rongsheng confirms the work on the new ship type and says the vessel will be 65 metres wide and 460 metres long. Rongsheng is set to start marketing the ship to owners shortly.

One Japanese bulker expert says the size of ore carriers will get larger because shippers and steel mills want large vessels to transport their cargoes. "Chinese steel mills are importing big amounts of iron ore and they are even considering using 500,000-dwt ultra large ore carriers [ULOCs] to ship the cargoes," he said. "Chinese steel mills can afford to deploy large ore carriers because they have big stockyards to store the cargoes, while Japanese steel mills do not have that kind of space."

This will be interesting to follow.
