Diesel Electric Powered Ships

Do anyone know the advantages of Diesel Electric Ships or just Diesel ships when it comes to Ship Handling.

Hi, diesel electric over other engine types, they can run at any revs (down to about 10rpm), easy adjustments (plus 1 rpm minus 1 rpm no problem), faster response time to changes, higher starting torque available, very quick to change from shut down to Standby, can be left in propulsion mode while at anchor, the required space for the engine room is smaller than most other systems,(ie more cargo).
