EXCLUSIVE: An Ayrshire fisherman has told STV News it was like articulated lorry hitting a child's bike.

An Ayrshire fisherman has told STV News how he and his fellow crewmen escaped serious injury after a cargo vessel collided with their boat off the Isle of Arran.

Donald Gibson, 40, was on the bridge of his ship the Spes Bona V at around 1.10am on Wednesday when he noticed cargo vessel heading towards them.

That could have easily been so much worse. Doesn't look good for the Leeswig crew.

Hi Allan

We have of course only one side to the story but it does make you wonder about what watch duties were being carried out by the Leeswing that the Trawler was not seen on radar and ny the naked eye - it was in darkness but when fishing Trawlers do have a lot of illumination.

As you say it could have been a worse accident and hopefully the Spanish Authorities in Port Sevilla board her upon arrival and find out exactly what happened.

Antigua & Barbuda..... this say everything. I was on a ship, also A & B flag, and I was scared to sleep because we had a deck cadet who slept all the time when on watch. I don't say it's a rule on ships with A & B flag but on such ships you have a big chance to find untrained crews.
