help on old vessels sunk as Florida artificial reefs
« on: January 30, 2010, 07:41:44 PM »
Hi all-
Thanks thus far for the recent assistance on research queries.  Rather than continue to pepper the forum with requests, I thought I would consolidate them in one post.  I am trying to get information on some vessels sunk in the 1970s and 1980s as artificial reefs.  Historical information on these vessels are sketchy, to say the least.  Below are the vessels of interest, as well as some guesses on potential identities.  Any help with documentation on these vessels (IMO, construction history, dimensions, etc.) would be greatly appreciated.  I suspect some of these were derelicts in the Miami River that were towed offshore and sunk.

WALKA Q
200-foot long ship sunk in 1980 off Miami.
Possibly the freighter WALKA, built in 1939 as GLADONIA; listed as foundered in 1980 but I have no details of its loss?

SAN RAPHAEL
freighter sunk in 1980 off Miami
