Hi There,
Just informed that we are going to dredge on Tyne River.Don't know anything about the job jet because I'm now working in the night time.
8 of march you will see us in the neigbourhood on AIS.
Ship is called "Alexander von Humboldt" now at work on the river Scheldt between Antwerp and Flushing in Dutch waters.
Look forward to it !!

Hi Rudy

Well it will be good to see a different ship on the Tyne for a change - nothing much about on the Tyne at the moment.Do you know if the dredging job is to do with the new Tyne Tunnel 2 Project?

Looks like it has something to do with the tunnel as she is owned by Jan De Nul , who dredged the tunnel site :-

Hi there Ellwood, just heared from the capt. this evening that we are going to close the tunnel-trench when the tunnel is inside. Discharching sand by bowconnection and floating line of 200 meters towards a spray pontoon.
Thats all we know for the moment and the voyage plan is allready made.

Hi Guys

Interesting article and photograph in tonight's Newcastle Evening Chronicle @ http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/north-east-news/todays-evening-chronicle/2010/02/24/final-section-of-new-tyne-tunnel-now-in-place-72703-25904486/

"Liquefied sand will be pumped into a small gap between the bottom of the section and the trench floor to stabilise the structure, and the jacks will then be withdrawn.

Sand and gravel will be used to cover the sections, which will be topped with a protective layer of granite from a Lake District quarry to protect the tunnel from potential damage."

Hi Steve, I beleive they have been pumping sand underneath the tunnel elements as there has been a small floating pipeline coming from the south bank , it has been used on various occasion.
The Alexander Van Humbolt will be covering the tunnel elements and I bet it will take a few trips!!

there is an 8 page thread here :-

http://www.shipspotting.com/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?start=30&topic_id=7191&forum=2&viewmode=flat&order=ASC
detailing all the stages of the tunnels major works in the river.

regards Brian

I think the only place you will be dredging will be off the Wash past the river humber, but I could be wrong.

A few years ago a place north of the river Blyth called "Newbiggin" had there beach recharged and this was where the vessel went for the sand.

Hi,
Still down for Friday on the Port of Tyne listing , but it also says "estimate ":-

http://www.portoftyne.co.uk/business-divisions/marine-and-environmental-services/shipping-movements/expected-shipping/

You will be in a better position to know the facts , look forward to seeing you when you arrive , dont know if you will have time for a bottle of "BROON Ale " as you will probably be in then straight out after discharge.

BRian
