Huelin Renouf
« on: September 03, 2009, 07:33:20 AM »
Does anybody know what is going on with Huelin Renouf?
Last year, they moved from Portsmouth to Southampton with all the fanfare of "New terminal; new ship".
The old Huelin Dispatch, IMO 7726952, moved on, being renamed Ranim Trader and the company used various charters such as Soul Sound & Coastal Wave for the regular Channel Islands service.
A new ship was built (IMO 9470870) and was last seen in Jorn's photo, fitting out in Leer.
Today, Southampton VTS shows the service is being operated by Huelin Dispatch, which is really Bremer Forest (IMO 9197404). At least, it was Bremer Forest when it arrived off Southampton at the weekend!
Meanwhile, the replacement Huelin Dispatch has been renamed Eiland and re-flagged to Antigua & Barbuda.
Has Huelin Renouf abandoned the new build and picked up a second hand model instead?

Indeed the new "huelin Dispatch" was not taken over from the shipyard.
Backgound, presumably, the severe drop of ship-value due to "the crisis"
which means the estimated market-value of the vessel would probably only
be some 50 percent of the building price. Many shipyards are sitting there with vessels which were not taken over by the buyers.

Nessewerft who were building the 'new' Huelin Dispatch were behind schedule on building the vessel, which allowed Huelin Renouf to cancel (it's in the contract that this is able to be done). Believe some of this delay was in getting the hull built in Poland.
Huelin Renouf have now investigated buying a replacement, which has now been found (Bremer Forest was renaming in Southampton when I saw her on Saturday). The bit which to me seems strange is that the Shipyard was part owned by Briese, who have taken over the 2009 built vessel renaming it Eiland. Briese were also the owners of the Bremer Forest, so presume a compromise was found, instead of the shipyard paying back the instalments on the newbuild. Also interesting is that I believe the Bremer Forest was berthed at the Nessewerft shipyard next to the Eiland before sailing for Southampton.

Kelvin,

Huelin Renouf refused delivery of Nessewerft Leer hull#003 (TBN Huelin Dispatch) on the grounds of excessive delays. The original completion date was scheduled for end-2008, but the ship was not ready until July 2009. There are normally terms in newbuilding contracts that allow owners to walk away should ships not be delivered within a certain agreed timeframe and many owners are choosing this option at the moment because 1) some yards overbooked themselves in the 'boom' and are struggling to complete orders on time and 2) the current slump in charter rates makes it a more attractive option for owners to cancel. In this case, however, it may not be quite as simple as HR were intending to use the ship on their own service. Of course the possible 'win' situation for them is that they can charter in a vessel, or purchase one second hand for much less than they could have done a year ago

Thanks for the info Joachim, Krispen & Phil.
These things get more complicated by the day.
The Bremer Forest (IMO 9197404), now sailing as Huelin Dispatch was previously BBC Gibraltar.
There is a BBC Gibraltar (IMO 9178472), managed by the same company and was previously known as...Bremer Forest!

Kelvin,

Maybe some confusion here, some records may have confused the two ships, they should read the following:

IMO 9197404, built as Paapsand in 2000, r/n Bremer Forest in 2001.Then Huelin Dispatch in 2009.
IMO 9178472, built as Leda in 1998, launched as Oster Till, r/n Bremer Forest after completion. 2001 r/n BBC Gibraltar.

Both are sisters, built at Slovenske Lodenice, but have different engines.

Hope this of assistance,

Krispen

Hi Krispen

Confirm VTS reported Bremer Forest as coming in from Emden.

Krispen,
Talk about confused!
According to Equasis, IMO 9197404, originally Paapsand, was renamed BBC Gibraltar on 16 Jan 2001, then renamed Bremer Forest on 23 Jan 2001 (exactly one week later).
Meanwhile, IMO 9178472 was renamed Bremer Forest 12 May 2000 and then renamed BBC Gibraltar on 23 Jan 2001, the same day IMO 9197404 was renamed....

Kevin,

On Equasis when corrections are made, they are shown as historical data, so sometimes ex names can be misleading - like in this case when two ships have become confused and it has taken a week for Equasis to show the correct information.

However GL (the ship's classification society) only show the completed as names, so the names under construction are lost.

Well done Krispen. It's a very important point to make and one which can be very confusing. Equasis does NOT remove names from their history, even if it is a mistake.

This is something that most people don't realise and I do wish Equasis would address this.

She was there at least on 18 August 2009, when I took photos of the departure of "Beatrix" from the neighbour ship yard Ferus Smit Leer GmbH.

Today, I see yet another change with Huelin; Coastal Wave IMO 8215807 has been renamed Huelin Endeavour and is serving the Southampton-Jersey route.
