MSC Daniela - first photos maiden voyage
« on: December 17, 2008, 09:10:12 PM »
... can be seen here: http://www.nieuwsbladtransport.nl/nieuws/id24179-MSC_Daniela_klaar_voor_maidentrip.html It's clearly visible that this ship does have a unique design and as far as I read, there are 8 of this type planned.

What a beauty Cornelia, can't wait to see the first one to enter Rotterdam with a full load. We probably have to wait some time before they come here ;-(
thanks for posting.
Cheers

Well, as far as I have read, the port of call in Europe will be Valencia, not (yet!!!) Antwerp, and not Rotterdam. So, this means that Aratino and friends from Valencia are on the lucky streak here

Well, but who knows how they are going to change the rotations once the other ships of the series are ready ?

Oh, and - no, I'd not say it's an ugly one. It does look very compact, but then what can one expect, it's a containership ! Not built to look good but for transportation.

This is the shape of things to come, I dont think they are ugly and i guess it will be nice to see something different.
A number of lines and vessel owners have vessels of this design on order coming to a port near you soon so watch this space!

The other MSC vessels in this class are as follows with 6 due for completion next year and the final one 2010.

MSC Beatrice   9399014
MSC Bettina   9399026
MSC Irene         9399038
MSC Kalina   9399040
MSC Emanuela   9399052
MSC Eva           9401130
MSC Gaia     9401142

At present MSC Daniela along with other 11000teu vessels MSC Sola & MSC Ivana of a seperate class being built by Daewoo, are due to enter MSC's Far East-Mediterranean

This is what you usually hear when they come up with a new design. Live with it.

I think, that these ships are simply not built to be eye-pleasing but for transporting alot of containers :-) So I think they are just fine the way they are, and hopefully contributing to the company's profit  :-P

I think that Cornelia is right containership are built to transport containers.
Everyone talking about a ship from a photo maybe its better to have a opinion when you see Daniela in the real.
When MSC Daniela maybe will go to Rotterdam and arrive on a monday then its maybe possible to catch her with one of the E-Class

I guess the shape of things to come, makes them more economical to run?
Ugly No...Different Yes....
Rather prefer the Emma Maersk myself...Better lines and shape.

These ships are designed with function over form in mind and to carry the maximum number of containers to in ordere to create cost savings & economies of scale for their owners.
If the orders are not cancelled in the current climate than a number of lines will have this design of vessel and they may become the norm in ports.
I still think they look impressive and hope to see this design one day.

By shifting deckhouse to first 1/3 of length creates some extra capacity-sightline requirements will no longer be an issue as everything behind can be stowed up to the "skies", so,  it will be very interesting to see her fully laden. I think she will be similar in shape with large car and truck carriers, but only twice bigger!
Funnel and engine room location - as far as i remember, Maersk had teething problems with first ships of e-class due to extremely long shaft - this seems to be solved with MSC design.
