The Finish roro m/v "Birka Exporter" was in collision with the British flagged beamtrawler "Hendrik Senior - LT 62", 428 gt. The incident took place Dec 8 at 6.30 a.m. about 20 miles NW of Vlieland on 53.26.5 N & 004.31.8 E. The rescue boats from Vlieland and Terschelling, "Arie Visser" and "Graaf van Bylandt" provided dewatering pumps, the tugs "Hurricane" and "Tempest" of the salvage company Noordgat were on scene. The "Birka Exporter" suffered bow damage and proceeded to Amsterdam for repairs, the "Hendrik Senior" headed for Harlingen after the ship was dewatered.
