as of 29 Dec 2008...
on the anchorage of the port of Gdansk, Poland
the "open type" (wide hatch) bulk carrier Hamburg Way (IMO 7931832)
is anchored since 16 Dec 2008
earlier (2008.11.18 - 2008.12.16) the ship was under repairs at Remontowa shiprepair yard in Gdansk
it seems to be at least a short term laid-up until they find employment for the ship...
at Remontowa SA two mono-hull fast ferries SuperSeaCat Three (IMO 9141871) and ...Four (IMO 9141883)
seem to be laid up...
they arrived to Gdansk on 18 and 15 Oct 2008 respecdtively and they were expected to leave before the end of December...
meanwhile, probably the specification of repairs was expanded, but seemingly not enough to keep the ships that long at the yard...
both ships were at some point declared to be staying at the yard until Dec 31, and several days ago both ships were declared to be departing on 31 March 2009...
sometimes choosing a small repair company with limited resources ("shipyard without docks") and relying also on ship's crew or shipowners "flying repair squad", thus making normal repairs extremely long, may also be regarded as some kind of lay-up...
chemical tanker Anitra (IMO 8513364) is moored at one of the Dalmor company quays in the port of Gdynia, undergoing alongside repairs, already since 01.10.2008...
quays of Dalmor have been often used as lay-up berths for several ships over several recent years, including long period lay-ups (eg. 1 or 2 years), including such ships as Antarctica (
http://www.shipspotting.com/modules/myalbum/photo.php?lid=733685 ) in these periods:
2006-08-10 - 2006-10-04 - 55 days
2006-04-28 - 2006-07-18 - 81 days
2006-03-24 - 2006-08-04 - 133 days
2006-01-23 - 2006-03-07 - 43 days
2002-04-24 - 2004-03-17 - 693 days
currently (as of end of Dec 2008), the following ships seem to be laid-up at Dalmor's quays:
- Fair One (IMO 8104307) - since 24.11.2008 (quite a long period as for loading or discharging such a small coaster)...
- Alert (IMO 7404176)
2008-10-09 - 2008-11-20 - 42 days
2008-02-06 - 2008-09-21 - 228 days
it seems to be a ship from the same company as Antarctica
- Sentinel (IMO 7106877)
it also seems to be the ship of the owners of Antarctica
I do not know exactly - since when, but I think for a couple of weeks now, the geared bulkcarrier Proikonissos (IMO ) has been anchored off Baltijsk / Kaliningrad, quite long distance from shore, with "Destination: Orders" declared on AIS (I understand it waits for orders of employment)
(currently at a position of 54
