Giant container m/v stuck fast
« on: July 28, 2008, 07:42:38 AM »
On July 27 the Bahrein-flagged container m/v "Al Manamah" , 75000 gt, length 306 m, stuck fast off Breskens close to the New Lock bound from Antwerp to Le Havre at 11.30 a.m. after an emergency anchoring which followed a machine failure. While the crew tried to get the machines started, four tugs came to assist. At 12 a.m. the machines worked again, and the anchors were lifted though the chains got entangled. When the chains were cleared, the ship was then able to continue its voyage.
