Don Wilfredo sank off Bulusanin
« on: February 15, 2008, 11:02:12 AM »
The cargo m/v "Don Wilfredo" loaded with beer capsized in stormy weather sank around 9:30 p.m., Feb 14, some 100 meters away from Barangay Boang in Bulusanin in the eastern Philippines, leaving four of its 19 crew missing. The "Don Wilfredo" sank after it was battered by high winds and big waves off Bulusan town late Feb 14. Fishermen and police rescued 15 of the crew, including one who was swept about 20 kilometers away from the ship. It had been carrying 76744 cases beer from central Cebu city on a 2-1/2 day trip to Legazpi city, northwest of Sorsogon. The vessel had taken shelter close to nearby Samar island but continued on to Legazpi when the weather cleared early Thursday. The captain said he encountered strong winds and waves in the afternoon. The captain reported all crew members were wearing life vests.
