Two men missing after Jinshan shipwreck
« on: February 19, 2008, 10:44:11 AM »
The Chinese trawler "Jinshan" sank in northern Philippines seas, leaving two crewmen missing, while 26 were rescued.  The "Jinshan" sank late Feb 17 off Ilocos Norte province, 435 kilometres north of Manila. Japanese oil tanker rescued 26 of the boat's crewmen from inflatable raftsas it passed by shortly after the accident. The captain and another man had stayed on board in an attempt to save the vessel. A Coast Guard rescue team sent to the area has not yet found the shipwreck or the two missing crew. The vessel was passing through Cape Bojeador near our lighthouse when it developed problems. The Chinese Maritime Centre had sought the help of the Philippine government in rescuing the fishermen. The search is continued.
