Repubblica di Genova to leave Anwerp

The wreck of the "Repubblica di Genova" was to leave Antwerp on Jan 31. It was to be towed to sea by the "Salvigilant", length 68 m, and was expected in the Zandvliets lock on 9.30 a.m. Two more tugs were to be connected to the stern, a third remaining on standby. If the wind is more than 5 bf or the sight beyond 2000 m, the operation was to be postponed.

Where is she going? Is she to be scrapped or repaired?

According to Piet Sinke's daily newsletter today, the
new name of the "Repubblica di Genova" will be "Daewoo Frontier". She will be towed to Korea for engine room overhaul and China for the remaining repairs.

The Repubblica di Genova is re-named to Daewoo Frontier and is still waiting to leave the port of Antwerp.
The tug  Salvigilant is still moored infront of her.
No movements have been made for the last few weeks.

This morning (14th of march 2008) the Daewoo Frontier (ex Repubblica di Genova) has left the port of Antwerp.
The strong tug Salvigilant was infront of her and 3 URS tugs kept her secure at the stern.
She has been waiting to leave the port of Antwerp for a long time.
Finally she made it to the River Schelde and who knows if we ever get to see her again!!
