Containership Anja runs aground
« on: November 09, 2007, 10:18:43 AM »
The grounding happened around midnight nov. 8th in Norway.

Two attempts have been made to refloat the vessel, but they have been unsuccessful.

Wow, that is quite a grounding!!

"I just KNOW I can make it onto that freeway up there; from there, we'll be home in no time!!"

Kinda reminds me of the Alva Star incident, years ago...

It seems it is this one:
IMO 9251509
Here's a link to the owner's page:
http://www.briese.de/typo3/index.php?id=1354&L=1&No=64
Yet another discrepancy between the owner's idea of what type of ship it is "Container" and Equasis's version; "General Cargo".

.. don't see a discrepancy:

as per GL she is classified as: "general cargo ship equipped for carriage of container", and Briese shows her on the website as container/multipurpose cargo ship".

the lightering of containers from the container m/v "Anja", 5560 dwt, started on Nov 9 at 5 p.m. after some salvage attempts failed. A new salvage attempt will be undertaken on No 13 with the 12 a.m. tide. The ship is owned by Briese in Leer, flies the Antigua & Barbuda-flag and has a capacity of 505 TEU. It was built 2001 by Qingshan Shipyard, Wuhan.

Yes my friend... you can wonder..but it is only human beeings who are in command on the bridge... even if they have all kinds of technology to help in the navigators life...BUT... there might be errors in the maps... GPS error
etc... so i believe the picture of this might have alot of different views...
I have been a sailor for about 35 years ... and experienced a lot of causualities on sea... so i will not chop the head of anyone on bridge of any ship... accidents will always happen at sea....
