Capsized "Republica di Genova" being righted today 29 August 2007

Apparently they are starting the righting of the capsized "Republica di Genova" today. Story in Dutch  HERE.

Hi,

According to the Antwerp Port Authority Svitzer will start tomorrow August 30 2007 with the lifting of the Repubblica di Genova. The lifting will take about 72h.

will she be scrapped afterwards or will they be able to use her again?

Hi,

the vessel will be pulled upright today and this will take 72 hours.
After that, she will be towed to Ijmuiden for repairs

Hi,

the ship was upright again at about 11 pm yesterday
Now the top decks will be unloaded before all the water can be pumped out to fully refloat her and empty all the other decks

can any one explain to me the system the salvors have used to right the ship, I think I once  read that it was called "parbuckeling" ??

Basically it is a wire pulling system which exerted the
7,500 tonnes of pull necessary to upright the vessel.
