One missing from RCCL ship
« on: June 20, 2007, 12:52:31 AM »
A Royal Caribbean Cruises (RCCL) vessel has had to alter its itinerary after turning around to search for a passenger who has apparently fallen overboard.
The 24-year-old unidentified man was last seen by a family member on the balcony of his cabin onboard the 154,400-gt Freedom of the Seas (built 2006) early on Monday morning.
The man was reported missing by his family at 08:30 on Monday and the ship, which had sailed from Miami on Sunday and was destined for Puerto Rico, turned around and retraced its path in an attempt to locate the passenger.
The US Coast Guard (USCG) began an air search on Monday. Reports indicate the USCG believes the man may have been intoxicated when he fell from the ship.
The Bahamas-flagged Freedom of the Seas, which was carrying 4,141 passengers at the time of the incident, is classed by DNV with insurance cover with the UK P&I Club.
In December 384 passengers and crew fell victim to the norovirus onboard the ship during a seven-day Caribbean cruise. In early June around 200 people feel ill onboard RCCL
Best regards
Bj
