This appears to be a similar extension to those of: Manon, Elektra, Mignon & Boheme.

These Wallenius vessels were all formely 200m LOA, and recently extended to 228m with a capacity of 7,194 cars.

It will be interesting to see how much bigger Car Carriers get but I expect we are nearing the limits of thier economies of scale..

Well this was an interesting post!
I photographed the Asian Empire leaving Southampton on August 25th and didn't think there was anything remarkable about her.
When I read this post, I looked back at some older pictures of her and found the only obvious changes to the ship can be seen by counting the number of ventilators along the deck between the ramp and the bridge!
I wasn't going to post my pictures as there seemed to be a lot of this ship but, as it is the "new, improved" version, I have posted them anyway.
By coincidence, the Asian Emperor also left Southampton the same day.

Hi,

On the outside of the elongated Wallenius-vessels it is very hard to see they are larger then original. If you can come close enough, you can see the words "Wallenius Wilhelmsen" are displaced on the hull. On the starboard-side you can see the difference by the place of the side-ramp.
On the inside it is more clear but you still need sharp eyes.

greetz,
