robert etchell:
here in vancouver the brand new k line cointaner ship GEORGE WASHINGTON BRIDGE made her maden call to the port of vancouver . i got photo of her and she looked brand new and aslo equasis had her listed bulit in 2006. i got photo of the old GEORGE WASHINGTON BRIDGE now the world ship society magazine marine news aug 2006 issue had her listed renamed WEST GATE BRIDGE. the point is the  that i think that k line are nameing there new cointaner ships with the  old names on new ships like i would not be surpized if there is new harbour bridge, bay bridge and rhine bridge  . i like k line ships and there funnel is neet funnel with its red letter k on the funnel.

Richard Matterson:
Robert,

That would be right, the old George Washington Bridge (1986 / 42000) was renamed West Gate Bridge to free up the name for the new building.  This is quite a regular occurence with K line and some others who like to give their ships names commensurate with the services they are on, the older vessel being moved to a different service and replaced by the newbuild.

Regards,

Richard.

robert etchell:

Peter G. Kim:
The Bremen Bridge is a rename from her original name of YM Bremen.  The PNW service is upgrading from 4000 TEU to 5500 TEU vessels.

Actually she was originally BREMEN BRIDGE (built 2001), renamed to YM BREMEN in 2004 and got back BREMEN BRIDGE recently. Her IMO number is 9247546, if you like to get more info.
