Origin of 'Casco'

(1/1)

David Ford:
Can anyone tell me the origin of the term 'casco', as used in connection with ships whose hulls are built at one yard and then moved to another yard for completion  / delivery?

Thanks
David Ford

Phil English:
As I understand it 'Casco' is simply the Dutch word for 'hull' as I've only ever seen it in relation to ships being completed in the Netherlands or mentioned on Dutch websites. I may be wrong though, so I'll hand it over to one of our Dutch members to confirm.

JMS:
Casco is the Spanish word for hull and it has migrated to the Dutch and Swedish that I know.

Pedro Baptista:
Is also the portuguese word for hull...

David Ford:
Many thanks for your responses to my query.
