KARMOL LNGT POWERSHIP ASIA (IMO IMO 8608705)
The vessel was built in 1991 at the Japanese shipyard Kawasaki Sakaide Works in Sakaide.
As the LNG tanker
NW SHEARWATER for the International Gas Transportation Co Ltd (IGTC), Bermuda.
In 2013 renamed
NORTHWEST SHEARWATER, same company the International Gas Transportation Co Ltd (IGTC), Bermuda.
In 2021, the tanker was acquired by KARMOL, owned equally by Japanese shipping company Mitsui OSK Lines and Turkish Karadeniz.
The latter has created the world's first fleet of floating power plants, and in some cases it was advisable to supplement them with facilities that would allow natural gas to be used in regions without adequate infrastructure.
The Northwest Shearwater was therefore converted into a floating LNG regasification and storage facility at the Sembcorp Marine shipyard in Singapore.
Renamed:
KARMOL LNGT POWERSHIP ASIA.
LNG is stored in tanks with a total volume of 125,172 m3.
If required, the vessel can continue to be used as a conventional LNG carrier and travel to its destination at a speed of 18.5 knots.
