In March 2018, Karpowership signed a contract with Mozambique’s electricity utility company, Electricidade de Mozambique (EdM), to deploy a Powership of 125 MW. Karpowership is operational in Mozambique since 2018 and working with EdM to convert the operations into LNG to enhance the first LNG-to-Power Project in Sub-Saharan Africa via its own LNG asset (FSRU). Karpowership has been supplying 10% of Mozambique’s total electricity needs.

KPS-10 AYŞEGÜL SULTAN (Ex Esra Sultan) (IMO 0000000)

Built in 2007, it was converted into a Powership in 2015 by Sedef Shipyard in Tuzla, Istanbul, Turkey.



The vessel is named after the sister of the chairperson of Karadeniz Holding, KPS-10 Ayşegül Sultan.



The Orca-class vessels, with a maximum capacity of 235 MW, are 140 meters long and 42 meters wide and are designed with the latest technology.
Our Powerships consist of Dual-Fuel engines, on-board high-voltage substation, on-board fuel storage and on-board accommodations. With a depth of only 3 meters, they can easily enter the ports of the countries where they will generate power.

On October 27, 2015, the Powership set sail for Ghana after a farewell ceremony held in Tuzla, Istanbul. It arrived in Ghana ahead of schedule and entered service at the port of Tema in December 2015.



The Powership has an installed capacity of 235 MW.

In Ghana ends in 2018, it passes through Turkey is renamed KPS-10 Esra Sultan.



The ship was renamed Esra Sultan so as not to irritate the local Shiites, who are negative about the wife of the Prophet Aishi, known in Turkish transcription as Aisegul.


And the power generation barge is sent to Lebanon, but it only works for 6 months.

In mid-2019, it passes through the Turkish shipyard and is modernized and christened with its former name KPS-10 Ayşegül Sultan.

In August 2019, Karpowership signed an LNG-to-Power contract with Senegal’s Electricity Authority (SENELEC) to deploy a Powership of 350 MW.

Karpowership is operational in Senegal since 2020 and has been supplying 20% of Senegal’s total electricity needs. Karpowership is also working with SENELEC to convert the operation into LNG-to-Power and had already deployed one of its LNG assets, KAMROL LNGT Africa to Senegal.

Here in dakar is the KARMOL LNGT POWERSHIP AFRICA (IMO: 9043677)



It is not a power generation ship.

The first LNG Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU), that is to be used by KARMOL as part of a power installation in Africa, arrived in Senegal as it prepares to deploy. After arriving in Africa at the end of May, it is being positioned at its mooring location and undergoing the commissioning process to join an existing powership in the port of Dakar.
Known as the Karmol LNGT Powership, the 105,000 gross ton tanker, that was built in 1994, recently completed trials after a conversion at the Sembcorp Marine in Singapore. The vessel is being operated a KARMOL, a joint venture between Karpowership and Japan’s Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL).
KARMOL sees the combination of FSRUs and Powerships as a ground-breaking solution to bring LNG utilized power generation to countries with no natural gas infrastructure or supply. The company believes that will provide a unique, cleaner solution to providing stable electric power to a broader range of developing countries seeking to expand their electric supply.

The FSRU will connect to a Powership, a floating power plant, owned by Karpowership, through gas pipelines. The Karadeniz Powership Aysegül Sultan, has a capacity of 235MW, and has been in operation since October 2019, supplying 15 percent of Senegal's electricity with 220MW of power to Senegal's grid. Previously the powership was fueled by traditional fossil fuels, which will now be replaced by the cleaner burning LNG.
The FSRU, which is 272 meters long, has a capacity of 125, 470 cubic meters of gas. The FSRU arrived in Senegal with an initial supply of LNG on board and the first refueling will be carried out by Shell in July.
The company plans to convert its fleet of Powerships to LNG to add a sustainable and affordable component to its operations. Currently, plans are underway to deploy the second LNG FSRU in Mozambique.

KPS-45 FARUK BEY (IMO 9007166)

The platform supply vessel, built by Vard Soviknes - Sovik, Norway in 1992.



It was named MAERSK PUNCHER joined the Maersk Supply Service fleet in 1993.

In 2016 , Maersk Supply has sold two of its anchor handling tug supply vessels (AHTS) to Karadeniz of Turkey.

The sale price of Maersk Puncher (built in 1992) and Maersk Provider (built in 1991) has not been disclosed.

Earlier this month, Maersk Supply stated that it would reduce its offshore support vessel (OSV) fleet by up to 20 vessels over the next 18 months due to "unprecedented market conditions."



Jørn Madsen, CEO of Maersk Supply Service, told Splash last week, "The vast majority of the vessels we are divesting will be recycled or modified by their new owners to compete outside the OSV market."

Karadeniz has been very active in the buy-sell market this year, and has bought at least two vessels to convert them into floating power plants.

After the two sales, Maersk Supply Service's fleet now numbers 54 vessels.

The MAERSK PUNCHER was converted into a Powership with a generation capacity of 40 MW at Hat-San Shipyard in Altinova, Yalova.



In 2017 it was completed and launched under the name KPS-45 FARUK BEY.



In 2018 Karpowership signed a 5-year contract with the government of Gambia and the KPS-50 KORAY BEY and KPS-45 FARUK BEY vessel was dispatched.



And it is generating electricity for the Banjul, Gambia.

In 2021 the KPS-45 FARUK BEY returns to Yalova, Turkey.



In 2022 it is sent to Abidjan, Ivory Coast, as the electric barge KPS-9 SUHEYLA SULTAN (ex Fatmagül Sultan) is leaving for Cuba after finishing its work.

In January 2022, Karpowership signed a contract with the Ivorian State to generate 100 MW of electricity for a period of one year.
And to renovate its old power plant.

She was built by the Fincantieri Marghera Shipyard in Venice, Italy with yard number 305 as a barge carrier (LASH carrier) in April 1984.

She has a generation capacity of 114 MW on dual-fuel (HFO- and gas-fired).

In October 2011, the Powership sailed to Basra, Iraq, where she supplied electricity for about one million residents there in a timespan of three years.



Two vessels of the fleet, MV Karadeniz Powership Doğan Bey (126 MW) and MV Karadeniz Powership Rauf Bey (180 MW), were already stationed in Iraq to bridge power shortage.

In November 2015, Karpowership was awarded a contract to supply electricity to land-locked Zambia via cross-border interconnected transmission lines through Mozambique and Zimbabwe.

Powership started delivering electricity in March 2016, within less than 4 months from contract signing. The contract was to initially supply 100 MW of base load power.



In March 2018, upon the completion of the contract with Zambia, Karpowership signed a new contract with Mozambique’s electricity utility company, Electricdade de Mozambique (EdM) to supply 48 MW of base load power for 5 years.

In November 2022 it was stationed in Havana, Cuba.



In 2023 it was sent to the Dominican Republic.

Built in 1996 by Hyundai Heavy Industries Co Ltd Ulsan South Korea as SKS TANA for Obo Ship Two Ltd , flag Bermuda.



1997 Transferred to SKS Obo Holding Ltd, flag Norway.

2008 New manager: SKS Obo & Tankers AS, flag Norway.



2016 Sold to Karpower Americas Company Limited (Karmarine Karadeniz Denizcilik ve Ticaret SA Istanbul Turkey as manager), flag Monrovia Liberia.

A fire broke out on 10/29/2023 in one of the auxiliary engines of the barge KPS-60 ESRA SULTAN operated by Karpowership in the Dominican Republic, in Los Negros, Azua province.



The information was confirmed by the representative of the Turkish company Karadeniz Powership, Carlos Matamoros, who indicated that the fire occurred between 9:30 am and 10:00 am this Sunday and that it was put out.

He stated that the fire broke out in one of the auxiliary engines used to heat the fuel.



He said that due to the fire "no personnel were affected, nor was there any spillage, nor was there any effect on the plant's generation".

"It was only an incident, it did not cause major damage and the barge has specialized fire brigades and they put it out themselves".
