A ship like this sails how far from the coast?

Cheers!

According to AIS Live, she is now proceeding north though the Odense Fjord.

Good news: Danish television (TV2) was broadcasting live when the vessel passed the narrow Gapet sound in the Odense Fjord, and have posted a 5 minute clip on the following page:

Hi
Does anyone know if this vessel is likely to be calling into Felixstowe on its voyages? I sure hope so.

Karl,

The Emma Maersk will be on the AE1 service, and therefore will call at Felixstowe. No doubt she will be an impressive sight.

It is interesting to note that all of AP Moller's major terminals have been equipped with cranes capable of handling 22+ rows accross for some years now. It was clearly always in Maersk's long term plan for ships of these size to be built. Southampton has not yet taken delivery of cranes capable of outreaching a vessel of this beam so I think it will be a few more years before we see ships of this size on the south coast

I counted 6 tugs when Emma Maersk passed the "Gabet"
in the following configuration:
Svitzer tugs:

"Fenja" IMO 9192076. and "Freja" IMO 9175262, Pulling Emma backwards out of the fjord.

"Svitzer Mj

Hi, Unfortunately maersk lines AE1 service does not call in the uk, European port rotation is ; Gothenburg,Aarhus, Bremerhaven, Rotterdam Algeciras, so doesnt look like we will see her at Felixstowe.

Southampton Container terminals (SCT) does have 2 x super post panamax cranes on order with an outreach of 22 containers.

Superb tv clip of her meaving Odense, would have loved to be there, hope someone has some pictures?

Hi
Now I'm confused. Due to my last message, enquiring about weather this ship will call into Felixstowe, one reply says yes, two more say no. Are there any others who would like to take part in the voting in this thread. The no's are in favour at the moment.
At least I should be able to see her in Rotterdam in the distance from the entrance and the Hook.

That would be from the company I work for then.  8-)

It is very interesting as an observer to read through this thread, and see some of the speculation and some of the facts. I am amazed at how resourceful some of you are! Several things bring a cheeky smile to my face though!
