Updates on vessels and service changes to New Zealand in 2019
Brent:
Pacifica about to lose Maersk's coastal business from Timaru as once again the Danes will be scheduling the 5,950 TEU Rio-class vessels on the SOuthern Star service to call. They will make the draft limit by making a prior call at Lyttelton to off-load imports only, then return after Timaru to load exports. And because this increases voyage time a 7th vessel will be added to the string.
The extra capacity will also take the imports usually shipped in on the Maersk Triple Star service, as the shortlived "Shanghai shuttle" service from Tauranga is being abandoned with the 9,000TEU types returning to man the WB service. This is a reinstatement of the previous vessel space-share with west coast South American product, where the ships commence loading for Asia.
flyer682:
Is Spirit of Canterbury run by Pacifica or Swire? I can't find her on either companies shipping schedules.
Being registered in Singapore, is she crewed by NZers or an international crew?
Pity to see that her future on the coast in jeopardy again, but such is shipping...
Stephen Chester:
I believe she was a Maersk charter as she is still showing on their schedule.
Tony des Landes:
GH Zonda (IMO 9436472) is to join MSC's Capricorn Service. She has been to NZ before as HS Wagner.
Simon Brown:
I believe the SPIRIT OF CANTERBURY maybe be on her last coastal voyage south to Timaru right now. Due back in Tauranga about 27 December and then to Auckland for bunkering and then to..?
