Dear Andrew,

The news has already been featured in this forum since 10 June under the somewhat cryptic heading "New Maersk v/l at Odense".

There, you will find links to many more pictures of the fire, including the ones from www.112-odense.dk, which both Tradewinds and Lloyd's List have used.

I note that both Tradewinds and Lloyd's List have run the story for the first time this morning, which (again) shows that Shipspotting.com is often way ahead of the pack on casualty reporting!

Best regards
Mats

Fellow shipspotters:

Are there accurate dimensions available for this newbuilding?
Nothing found so far on the AP Moller Maersk website.
Thanks,

Stuart

Sorry Stuart, as discussed in other threads here, Maersk do not disclose the size of their newbuildings and that includes the dimensions.

there are rumours circulating in the industry is that this new vessel is 22 containers wide, currently MSC has the widest container vessels which are 18 containers wide.
Will be interesting to see when she finaly gets launched.

My research shows that the Gudrun Maersk, launched last summer, is 367 meters LOA and 47m beam.

Don't know for sure if this yard #203 is the same class.
According to the Wikipedia site, this #203 is the Emma Maersk. Cannot trust Wikipedia, as it's a 'free-for-all' with respect to entries.

A Maersk captain who I spoke with last night on an M class ship said that he heard this newbuild is 406 meters.

Regards,

Stuart

Stuart,

Hull 203 is definately in a different class to the Gudrun Maersk Series. This was mentioned in another thread here.

Cheers
Phil

Today NieuwsbladTransport says the vessel will be named "Emma Maersk" and have a capacity of 13.460 TEU. It will be deployed in the AE1-Service (Europe-Far East).
