Dutch dredging and marine services group Boskalis has signed a letter of intent to acquire the offshore and marine energy activities of Dutch construction group VolkerWessels.

The transaction, which Boskalis hopes to be complete during the second quarter, involves the takeover of three VolkerWessels companies.

Boskalis plans to take full charge of VBMS, an offshore cable installation company it already owns jointly with VolkerWessels, as well as of cable-laying and multipurpose vessel operator Stemat and offshore construction specialist Volker Stevin International (VSI).

Stemat has a fleet of 50 vessels, comprising work boats, multipurpose barges, and pontoons, as well as other marine equipment.

Boskalis CEO Peter Berdowski indicated his group is chiefly interested in VolkerWessels
