Golden Trader
« on: April 18, 2006, 10:32:38 AM »
The Golden Trader has been layed up in Auckland since 1/2/06. She has been repainted, but her departure date keeps getting put back, now 21/4/06. The Port of Tauranga has her arriving there to load logs for Korea,(funny ship to carry logs) :-?
Does anyone know what is holding up her departure?

Hi Steve,

I beleive it is money, or the lack of it.
Also hear half the crew have done a runner, but they can't be declared as such yet as the ship has not sailed.

But she does look a picture, painted up so nicely.

Golden Trader whom is owned by the Tongan Govt. is in the process of being sold.   They have a buyer but the money for her purchase  hasn't been paid yet. 3 crew members disappeared in February.
The latest date for her departure is 26/04/06 this will change again if  the buyer still hasn't come up with the money.
Regards Zelda
Kind regards,
 Zelda

Just an update. She is still here, new departure date is 12/5/06. She is no longer listed for Tauranga, I guess the log exporter found another ship. :-)

Hello Stephen,  It is no use posting dates for her departure as they change frequently while they wait for the sale to go through. New departure date is not 12/5.

Has been ETA Napier since last Monday, latest though is now 1/6 loading logs for China. Skeptical if she ever gets here.

Cheers

She refuelled today 29/5, so looks like a deal may have been made. She is down for departure on 1st June.

She finally backed away from the wharf at 21.15 on 2nd June and headed for Napier. She had no funnel markings, still had a Tongan crew with port of registry of Nukualofa. She is to load logs in Napier for Penglai in Northern China. Her crane does not seem ideal for this task, maybe she will use a shore based crane?

Since leaving Napier she has been renamed Golden Trader I.

Her new owners are Hana Shipping Management Co Ltd with offices in South Korea, while her nominal owners are listed as Pariz Global FZCO who are domiciled in the United Arab Emirates. She now flies the Panamanian flag.
